The street artist uses streets and wide squares as a huge canvas for painting. German Edgar Mueller creates three-dimensional optical illusion paintings that invite passers-by to participate in the street performance.
Edgar Müller was born in Mulheim / Ruhr on July 10, 1968 and grew up in the countryside in western Germany. His artistic talent for portraying the world around him graphically and picturesquely manifested itself at an early age. At the age of 16, Edgar first took part in the festival of street paintings, and when he was 19 he won the competition by reproducing on the pavement a copy of the painting "Dinner at Emmaus" by the Italian artist Caravaggio. Edgar Müller bears the title of 'maestro madonnari' (master of street painting), which is awarded to only a few worthy artists in the world. From the age of 25, Müller decided to devote his art entirely to street painting. He travels all over Europe, organizes workshops in schools and is one of the organizers and committee members of various street painting festivals.
Edgar Müller's studio is just in the open air. He acquaints passers-by with the world's masterpieces of talented artists, drawing copies of their paintings just on the pavement. It opens the world of real art to passers-by, forcing them to see and appreciate its depth. Despite taking courses and training with renowned artists, Edgar, in fact, is self-taught. He is always in search of new forms of representation of the picture. Inspired by three-dimensional illusion paintings by the likes of Kurt Wenner and Julian Beever, he follows a new art, creating his own style. Drawing on his knowledge of traditional painting and modern techniques, Müller uses a simpler and more graphic language to express his art. He paints in huge city squares, forcing passers-by to participate in his fictional illusionary world, making observers part of his pictorial production.
It took 5 days to complete a huge drawing called Ice Age in Ireland. Together with five of his assistants, he painted all day from dawn to dusk. Approximately 250 square meters is occupied by a new project by Edgar Müller, which appeared on the streets of an Irish town on a warm August day.
The apocalyptic scene that once appeared on the street of a small town in Germany frightened more than one passer-by. The ground parted, and streams of erupting lava rushed down the street where cars usually passed and people walked on weekends. But the view is deceiving. When viewed from the right angle, Mueller's 3D image becomes a perfect illusion.
The first in a series of large-scale street art, Flood in Canada was painted on asphalt for the Summer 2007 Prairie Arts Festival. The huge area of 280 square meters was covered with paint. With the help of local artists, Edgar Müller turned the street into a river that ended in a waterfall.

Refined simplicity in the photographs of Eva Müller
