Ocean Imagination is a project by the Korean architecture firm Unsangdong Architects specially prepared for World Expo 2012, which will be held in the seaside city of Yeosu, South Korea from May 12 to August 12, 2012. The main task of the craftsmen was to create such a scientific and technical mix that could, without harming nature, use its wealth as rationally as possible.
The theme of the upcoming exhibition is “Life of the Ocean and its Coasts”. According to the rules of the competition, the pavilion should be located on the high seas and reflect the EXPO theme as clearly as possible, organically combine the location, the exhibition itself and architectural solutions. So far, "Ocean Fantasy" is a project that exists only on paper, but the architects hope that it will be approved and become the star of the upcoming exhibition.
The architects themselves describe their project as follows: “The pavilion invites visitors to experience the ecosystems of the ocean and visit various exhibitions dedicated to nature, created by human hands. For example, "Ocean Gate" imitates the nature of the seashore, inverted vertically. This creates a dynamic effect and reminds viewers of the various manifestations of nature. The project combines ocean ecosystem and architecture in accordance with the main theme of EXPO 2012”.
Another innovation of this large-scale structure is that visitors can see through the mirrored walls how the ocean water flows around the building, thus approaching the world of wildlife and the ocean ecosystem in particular.
Inside the composition there will be pavilions dedicated to the life of the ocean and its inhabitants. The characteristics of the composition are as follows: Total area: 6200 sq. M, insertion area: 2000 sq. M and height: 100 m. let's say the buildings will be submerged.
Unfortunately, there is no separate site dedicated to this project, but the site of the "Unsangdong Architects" company has rather detailed information about it. By the way, you can see many other interesting projects of this company there.
