The painting of the artist from Porto Cristina Troufa is unusually expressive and emotional. In an effort to deeper comprehend his own inner world, Trofa literally bares his soul, appearing before the viewer in various guises.
Despite the conscious involvement of the audience in the chain of his own spiritual experiences, the author does not seek to evoke sympathy or be aggressive. Creativity Troff disposes, rather, to thoughtful contemplation than to passionate empathy. “My work is akin to spiritual practice,” Christina confesses, “It’s a kind of coexistence of several ideas about oneself within the framework of one life, the meaning of which is being questioned.”
The artist was born in Porto (Portugal) in 1974. In 1998 she graduated from the University of Fine Arts of Porto (FBAUP: Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto) with a BA in Fine Arts. A few years later, the artist received her master's degree at the same university.
Trofa is a co-founder of the Association for Sculpture and Contemporary Art AEAC. Her exhibitions are successfully held in Portugal, and since 1995 she has been permanently exhibited as part of solo and group exhibitions in Italy and Spain. Among them is the "Barcelona Showcase" - an international exhibition of contemporary art, which traditionally takes place in Barcelona (International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Spain).
Here is what writer Richard Zimler says about the artist's work: “Looking at Christina's work, I realized how skillfully and expressively she portrays complex emotions. This is indeed a very difficult task and a huge work, because the image of a human face at the time of strong experiences has puzzled venerable artists for centuries. This work requires tremendous technical skill and special observation. Amazingly, the artist manages to brilliantly portray mixed emotions, such as doubt and fear."
British artist Chloe Earley is also good at conveying mood. Sensuality and lyricism in her works converge in an equal duel with aggression and down-to-earthness. The artist's oil paintings on traditional canvas or on top of aluminum strips are etched into memory for a long time.
