The most interesting gold figurines were found in Colombia back in the 19th century. They were kept in museums with standard plaques: "Otun Birds". However, about 100 years after their discovery, visitors to one of the exhibitions noticed the incredible resemblance of these "birds" to the most modern aircraft. This was the beginning of a sensation that continues to excite the minds until then. A huge number of people believe that the ancient Incas had aircraft similar to modern ones.

The jewelry of the Kimbay culture was created around the 4th-7th centuries. Small artifacts made of gold are 4-5 cm in size. All of them, according to scientists, were placed in the burials of the leaders and served as decorations or amulets. They were hung on the chest or attached to clothing. The peoples of Tolima and Kimbaya, to which these works belong, lived on the territory of present-day Colombia, in the middle reaches of the Magdalena River, however, similar figures were found far beyond this region: in Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica. To date, 33 such exhibits are known. Most of them are kept in the "Museum of Gold" in the city of Bogota.

The scandal erupted in 1969 when the museum's exhibits were placed on a temporary display at the New York Metropolitan Museum. American jeweler Emmanuel Staub was the first to notice the amazing similarity of ancient figurines with the latest aircraft. Having photographed the most interesting exhibits, he handed them over to zoological scientists, including the specialist on "irrelevant artifacts" Ivan Sanderson. This naturalist, popularizer of cryptozoology, was delighted with what he saw and conveyed the information to the engineers.

It must be said that the opinions of scientists from different fields on these issues are fundamentally different. Some zoologists believe that the figurines are not similar to any of the known animals, while others, on the contrary, find in them much in common with birds, reptiles and flying fish. Likewise, aircraft specialists - Sanderson received a variety of responses to his inquiry. Doctor of the New York Air Navigation Institute B. Poisley and aircraft designer Arthur Jung, for example, believed that these models are indeed more copies of mechanical objects, not biological ones, and began a controversy about the appropriateness of the location of the wings of this ancient aircraft. Sanderson concluded that it was necessary to move on to practical tests. By that time, there was a massive interest in such unusual research in the press.

German enthusiasts - aircraft designers Algund Enboom, Peter Belting and Konrad Lubbers created real flying machines on the basis of ancient jewelry in order to test them “in action”. It turned out that the deltoid wing and vertical tail plane of the "golden bird" really have excellent aerodynamic qualities. Of all the figures, the ones that most resembled airplanes were chosen. Based on these "prototypes" from modern materials, aircraft models increased 16 times were created. The airplanes were equipped with motors and radio control. The tests gathered a lot of spectators - is it a joke, to launch flying vehicles 1, 5 thousand years ago into the air! It turned out that the models not only fly perfectly, but are also capable of performing aerobatics - they successfully did the "kick" and "loop", and with the engine off they planned for a long time. It must be said that even the golden figures themselves, placed in a wind tunnel, fly well, despite their heavy weight - enthusiasts of this issue have done such an experiment.

Today, despite the excellent results of these tests, the question remains open. Historians have not changed their opinion on this matter. Since no mechanisms and even materials necessary for the manufacture of aircraft were found in pre-Columbian cultures, there is nothing to talk about. Still, history is an exact science, it requires proof for any statement. However, lovers of sensations and popularizers of pseudo-scientific theories do not get tired of asserting that in this case we are holding in our hands evidence of the existence of highly developed technogenic civilizations of antiquity. Enthusiasts are still looking for their origins in various places - from space to the mythical Atlantis. The image of the Columbian Airplane was even chosen as one of the symbols of the Association of Paleocosmonautics.

And in continuation of the theme, especially for adventure seekers, a story about which Inca treasures have reached our time, and where the lost "golden" city of Paititi is located.
