The writer Ruslan Zakriev from Chechnya spoke to the news outlets. He told them about filing a statement of claim with the Zavodskoy District Court of Grozny. This lawsuit is directed against James Cameron, a famous American filmmaker, for copyright infringement. The plaintiff wants the American director to acknowledge the writer's participation in the creation of the script for the film "Avatar", and also wants to receive compensation for moral damage in the amount of ten million Russian rubles.
The famous Hollywood director was accused of plagiarism by this writer back in 2015. It turned out that the film contains storylines that were invented by Zakriev when writing a novel called "The Secret Weapon". The writer wants to achieve justice and asks for help from Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, about which he wrote in his open letter to the head of the Russian Federation. Then in the spring, the writer turned to the court of the Aleksandrovsky district of the Stavropol Territory, with a demand to recover from the American director an amount of $ 1 billion. But this claim was rejected.
The mass media have not yet been able to find out how the Zavodskoy District Court of Grozny is commenting on the current situation.
Roman Zakrieva with the title "Secret Weapon" has been in the public domain since 2002. Its creator is confident that the storylines were used in the movie "Avatar". The writer himself speaks about this with confidence and claims that his assumptions can be confirmed by the registration of rights to the novel and the expert opinion. The writer draws attention to the fact that the representatives of the famous Hollywood director do not deny that there are some similarities in the movie Avatar and in the novel The Secret Weapon, only they turn everything over as if the idea was stolen by Zakriev.
The writer wants to be officially recognized as a co-author of the script for the fantastic story, as well as to be paid compensation. After that, he is ready to work with Cameron on the creation of the sequel to "Avatar", which was able to win the title of the highest grossing motion picture in the history of cinema. It is worth remembering that other writers have previously also reported stealing their ideas. Earlier, the lawsuit against the director of "Avatar" was filed by Eric Ryder, Emil Malak, Zhou Shaomou and Kelly Wang.
