Someone collects stamps and boasts a unique collection of exclusive pieces. Someone is fond of collecting weapons, ancient books, icons, jewelry … And the Brazilian artist Enrique Oliveira (Henrique Oliveira) collects wood from cities and countries: wood cuts of different types of wood. No, he's not an insane collector. He is the author of large-scale wood installations that you will not see anywhere else. Enrique Oliveira was born in Orinhos (Brazil) and began his unusual work there, collecting olive wood on the streets of São Paulo, and creating unthinkable structures from its thinnest cuts. Everyone knows that every tree has a unique pattern of "age rings", and if you make a skillful thin cut, you can get a real picture, for the creation of which you do not need paints, brushes, or any other drawing devices.
Over time, the artist became less olive tree, and he began to taste other tree species, from the most common to the most exotic. Not only do they have a peculiar pattern on the cut, but they also have very distinctive, natural, "real" colors, so the installations that Enrique makes do not need additional coloring. Nature itself took care of this.
Frankly, I cannot understand some of Enrique's masterpieces, nor can I understand their beauty and the popularity that such installations enjoy in Brazil and far beyond its borders. Perhaps the whole point is that it is rare where you see so many interesting types of wood. Or maybe the installations resemble other natural phenomena such as tornadoes, storms, river floods … In any case, there are a lot of fans of such creativity. And you can admire other works of Henrique Oliveira on his personal website.
