Name Nikolay Cherkasovwent into the golden fund of Soviet cinema. The infinitely talented actor embodied the images of historical figures on the screen and enjoyed the sympathy of Stalin. The impeccably performed role of Alexander Nevsky impressed the leader so much that he insisted to place the actor's profile on the order of the same name. Having received a good school education, Nikolai Cherkasov did not philosophize slyly over the choice of profession and decided to enter the Military Medical Academy for the company. It would seem that fate was already a foregone conclusion, but Nikolai happened to see a man who fell under the wheels of a tram, and it became obvious: the sight of blood is so frightening that you need to think about another profession.
Selfless love for theater and opera pushed Nikolai Cherkasov to enroll in mime courses, and then enroll in the Mariinsky Theater. Then there was training at the Institute of Performing Arts. The young actor took part in experimental productions, actively performed, was fond of new roles. It was clear that he had managed to find his true calling.
The first film work of Cherkasov was the film "The Poet and the Tsar", the debut was successful, and soon new proposals appeared. One of the most famous roles of the 1930s was the role of Professor Paganel in the film Captain Grant's Children. He played Cherkasov and historical figures - Tsarevich Alexei in "Peter the Great" and Alexander Nevsky in the film of the same name. For the role of Nevsky, the actor received the Stalin Prize.
The 1940s became the most terrible period in the life of the actor: two years before the war, one of his daughters died in infancy, in 1942 the eldest daughter of Cherkasov also died. Despite the fact that these tragic events greatly affected the health of Nikolai Cherkasov, he found the strength to gather a troupe of artists for performances at the front. In addition, during the war years, he starred in another historical film - "Ivan the Terrible". Nikolai Cherkasov was a man of exceptional kindness, he made every effort to provide all possible help to everyone who needed it.
In the post-war years, Cherkasov starred in many films, but all of them, as a rule, were of a biographical nature, he succeeded perfectly in the roles of historical figures. Roles in the films Don Quixote and Everything Remains for People have become truly successful. The first film was highly appreciated in Canada, the second brought the Lenin Prize to Cherkasov. While working on these films, the actor was already seriously ill; despite the success, after their release on the screens in the next wave of layoffs, it was decided to cut Cherkasov. Being unemployed turned out to be a blow for the actor, he continued to carry out active social work, but very soon his strength faded away. Nikolai Cherkasov died in 1966.
Stalin gave a special favor to another diva of Soviet cinema - Lyubov Orlova. She is deservedly called the most beautiful film star 1930-1940
