In honor of the 70th anniversary (January 27, 1945 - January 27, 2015) from the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz Soviet troops, two photographers (Laszlo Balogh and Kacper Pempel) made a powerful series of portraits of people who managed to survive in captivity. Each photograph is a difficult story, telling about the terrible ordeals that fell to the lot of these people, who became victims of inhuman treatment by the Nazis during the war.

In the Auschwitz camp (Auschwitz - the complex of the German concentration camps Auschwitz-Birkenau), more than a million people were killed. These victims included children, women and the elderly, most of whom were Polish Jews. More than two hundred thousand prisoners were released, and about three hundred people who have been in this hell are still alive to this day. That is why many of them in this photo series are captured with photographs of their families whom they have lost.

People with a difficult fate, pretty battered by life and having seen death with their own eyes, people who have experienced more than one loss … They have not lost faith and gained hope, they managed to survive, defeating their fear, and now, without hiding tears, sadness and joy, they all with a shudder they recall the past times of their imprisonment in one of the most terrible places on Earth.

Children's death camp "Salaspils" - the most ominous place in the history of Mankind, which can be compared with Auschwitz. This concentration camp stood out for its particular cruelty among the many similar places organized by Nazi Germany. A barrack was built especially for the little prisoners, in which they did not have to stay for a long time … Children died of diseases and exhaustion, tortured by terrible medical experiments and all kinds of experiments. They could not stand the pain and bullying and prayed for only one thing - that all this would stop.
