Fear, become interested, reflect, admire - approximately according to this scenario, the first acquaintance with a series of sculptures takes place Matchstick men … Sculptures, whole and charred gigantic matches, are part of a philosophical art project Burnout (Burntout) from a German sculptor Wolfgang Stiller … The project is called philosophical for a reason: matches are crowned with human heads, which, in fact, can frighten the uninitiated viewer. And despite the fact that the author of the sculptures does not provide any explanations, inviting the public to draw their own conclusions, the name "Burntout" speaks for itself.
People are like matches. Alone, thin, fragile, helpless, at first resist, but if you push hard, they bend and then break. It won't be so easy to break a few matches. But they burn stronger, hotter and brighter. One match lights another, and this is how people kindle each other with ideas, emotions, mood. Only the fates of match-people are completely different. Some burn weakly and quickly go out, others instantly burn to the ground, and there are those who do not want to ignite at all, no matter how hard they try. They will break, but will not ignite. These burnt, charred and whole matches with human heads filled the exhibition hall, giving the gallery visitors an opportunity to peer into their faces. And there is something to see: while working on sculptures for Matchstick Men, Wolfgang Stiller has never repeated himself, so among them you will not find two identical facial expressions, two identical emotions. Each match is individual, just like every person on earth.
Charred and half-burnt matches rest in coffin boxes, lean against snow-white walls, or lie side by side on the floor of an art gallery, like soldiers after a battle. From the outside, it looks like someone scattered a box of huge mantel matches, but the expressions frozen on the blackened faces of the sculptures will give rise to a number of alternative legends. From March 8 to April 20, the installation will be shown in the Swiss gallery "Python", or it can be seen on Wolfgang Stiller's website.

7 extraordinary sculptures with meaning that "crawl" out of the ground, out of the water, out of the walls
Not only political leaders and renowned figures of science and art - on the streets of cities now more and more other sculptures appear, whose purpose is to entertain, surprise, amuse, and sometimes make one think. The fact that sometimes they seem to pass through the earth's firmament or rise out of the water is not only intriguing, but also suggests that art knows no barriers and obeys not physical, but completely different laws
Sculptures with a strange meaning. Art projects of the artist Ivan Prieto
The young Spanish artist Ivan Prieto relatively recently began to rise up the creative career ladder, but his extraordinary works have already won fame and recognition of the public. The fact is that the sculptures of this author, although conceptual, are at the same time very realistic, because they represent the extremes of a person, his sins and shortcomings, which even a handsome man can turn into a goblin
Topographic food sculptures. Food topographic sculptures art project by Stephanie Herr
The inspiration of the German artist Stephanie Herr lies in the work of the compilers of topographic maps, in their volumetric creations, which can be called almost-sculptures, specific bas-reliefs. They need not only to be viewed, but to be able to understand and read, as one reads comics or stories written with pictures. Having studied the technique of creating relief sculptures, the artist willingly applies it in her own work, as can be seen by looking at the works from the Food topographic sculp series
A series of sculptures "The Four Seasons". Seasons of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo in the art project of Philip Haas
The legacy of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, a representative of Mannerism, a great Italian master who died at the end of the 16th century, lives on to this day. People who understand painting probably remember a series of amazing paintings by Archimboldo, in which he portrayed the seasons with amazing characters, as if woven from seasonal vegetables, fruits and berries, well, dressed for the weather. To remind of this creative feat of the great artist, as well as to accomplish with his help his own, prompted owls
To bring dirty linen to the hut. Vacuum cleaner houses in a philosophical art project by Frank Halmans
A popular proverb recommends not washing dirty linen in public, since all family squabbles, problems and conflicts should be resolved in the family, without making them public. But there is not a single proverb that would warn people against putting a variety of garbage into the hut, ranging from gossip and spitefulness to aggression, lies and betrayal. People are pulling what is great … Dutch artist Frank Halmans in his Full House art project clearly demonstrates
