London-based artist of Canadian origin Andrew Salgado paints portraits of men with unusual technique. Salgado's abstract figurative painting looks fresh, bold and extraordinary. Expressive, vibrant strokes create the illusion of life and movement. The triumph of color is striking, and the metaphoricity and depth of the images attract attention.
The young artist was born in Regina, the capital and second most populous city of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Winner of numerous competitions, brilliant portrait painter, one of the most promising living artists, Andrew Salgado has been widely exhibited in the UK, where he has lived and worked since 2008, in his native Canada, throughout the United States, as well as in Scandinavia, Thailand, Korea, South Africa, Germany and Venezuela.
His work, along with the works of such masters of contemporary art as Tracy Emin and Gary Hume, for a time could be seen in London's Courtauld Institute of the Arts, the largest institute of history art at the University of London, which has its own extensive art collection. In addition, Salgado has repeatedly participated in numerous art biennials and exhibitions, including The Merida Biennale of Contemporary Art (2010) and the 2012 NordArt Carlshutte Biennale.
In addition to his direct creative and exhibition activities, the artist generously donates funds to numerous charitable associations and foundations around the world, including the Terrence Higgins Trust, a voluntary organization that provides medical and financial assistance to AIDS patients, as well as foundations and organizations helping cancer patients.
A colleague of the talented Canadian, Italian Alessandro Pautasso, also known online as Kaneda, is a young graphic designer and illustrator. In one of his most recent projects, he tried to modernize and reinterpret the portraits of iconic figures from old Hollywood. Abstract geometric shapes and rich colors that the author uses make his work akin to the abstractions of Andrew Salgado. Salgado's earlier work can be seen here: here.
