Modern technologies are used not only to create weapons of mass destruction. Sometimes, with their help, completely peaceful goals are realized - for example, designers create art installations.
This installation has a mind of its own (no quotes). This feature consists in the fact that the installation can track the actions of visitors to the room. The essence is extremely simple - there is a room that is almost empty. Lighthouses are located along its perimeter - the installation was named "Mayak" - sparkling with red lights.
One or more people enter the room, and the devices begin to follow their movements. A person walks, and the rays are directed at him. He takes several steps, and the light follows him, the beacons turn on their axis and illuminate the figure of a person. If the idea is not entirely clear in words, then we recommend watching the video material at this link.
The whole system works in real time and anyone can check its functionality. I guess the feeling is rather strange when you are walking, and several dozen red signal lights are directed at you. Which, moreover, follow everywhere for your every step … Frightening, exciting, but extremely interesting.
The show takes place at Lightwave 2009 at the Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin.
