Rania Hassan combines knitting and painting in her art to create amazing works of art that raise the topic of human relationships and intergenerational ties.
Five years ago, Rania's friends Hassan taught her how to knit, and, as often happens, a new skill captured the girl headlong. “I fell in love with the beauty of yarn, with the history of loops. I was delighted that a variety of things can be created from a single thread and from simple loops,”Rania tells about her hobby. But what about the acquired skills? Knit scarves and sweaters? You can, but it's too predictable. Rania found a way out by combining knitting with another passion of hers - drawing, and already in 2006 (that is, a year after she learned to knit) the first works from the "Knit Painting" series appeared.
If you look at it, then from a technical point of view, the works of Rania Hassan are not so difficult. Each of them consists of two paintings depicting female hands with knitting needles, and a knitted fabric attached to them. It turns out that both craftswomen are working on the same piece, but from two different ends. According to the author, this symbolizes the connection between generations: “I thought that knitting connects me with my mother, with my grandmother and with all generations of women who have been doing needlework before me. To one degree or another, we are all connected to each other,”reflects Rania Hassan.
Rania Hassan was born in New York and traveled a lot. She graduated from the American University of Beirut (Lebanon) with a BA in Graphic Design. The author currently lives and works in Washington DC (USA). You can see more of the author's works either on her official website. website, either in Online store, where it is quite possible to buy your favorite work from the "Knit Painting" series (unless, of course, you are not confused by the price from $ 320 to $ 580).
