In the modern world, a wrapper, packaging, a brand can cost much more than the product itself, which they accompany. This paradox is the subject of a series of amazing works by the photographer. Sherif Elhagecalled Black.
The Spanish creative group Luzinterruptus is world renowned for its love of darkness. After all, it is in the dark that you can admire most of their works. True, it is the light that is interesting in their work, but Sheriff Elnag is attracted by its absence.
An example of this is the photographs from the Black series, in which the emphasis is placed on exactly what is not visible, and not what can be seen. These photographs of Sheriff Elnag depict a variety of subjects that he captured both in his native Middle East and in Europe and America. The topic is completely varied. This is a cargo ship sailing on the sea, and a tunnel cut through the mountains, and a merry-go-round in an amusement park, and clouds floating in the sky, and Christmas illumination on a private house, and night illumination of a skyscraper, and lights along the airport runway.
But apart from these specific objects, there is nothing else in the photographs - only darkness. Moreover, Sheriff Elnag created these black spots manually, on a computer, cutting off all unnecessary and irrelevant, distracting from the main object depicted in the photograph.
Thus, the photographer tries to teach people to pay attention to the main thing, to the essence, and not to the cover. According to him, works from the Black series are directed against post-production, which often replaces the product itself, with which it goes in conjunction, they are directed against the consumer society, which pays too much attention to the brand, and not to the qualities and properties.
