On October 8, Riga will host the opening of the Golden Mask festival, which will begin the autumn season of annual foreign tours for the thirteenth time. During the opening, according to good tradition, Russian artists will plant trees. This time, within the framework of the Golden Mask, the Bolshoi Theater of Russia is planning to show the ballet The Taming of the Shrew. It should be remembered that this ballet was able to receive three awards and six nominations a few years ago.
The Baltic tour is scheduled to end on 17 October. The Vakhtangov Theater will take part in these tours. The local troupe will show the performance "Oedipus King" and "Our Class". The Novosibirsk theater with the name "Red Torch" will take part in the tour, wishing to show its production of "Three Sisters", "Dowry" will be shown by the Theater "School of Dramatic Art" during these tours. The Theater of Nations decided to show a play staged by Maxim Didenko, called "Circus", as well as the play "Shukshin's Tales", in which Chulpan Khamatova and Yevgeny Mironov will take part. The St. Petersburg Small Drama Theater will take part in the tour, which has decided to show a play called "The Wizard of Oz".
Russian theaters will demonstrate their creativity not only in the largest Baltic cities. The tour program also includes small towns: Liepae, Sillamäe, Ventspils, Narva, Viljandi. In total, during the tour of the cities of Estonia and Latvia, 20 performances will take place. To make the audience interesting and clear what is happening on the stage, simultaneous translation into Latvian and Estonian will be organized.
We decided not to limit ourselves to only showing some productions. Russian theaters have planned master classes, exhibitions, lectures, and are planning to organize creative evenings with cultural figures. A master class by Viktor Barykina, choreographer of the Bolshoi Theater, will be held especially for the pupils of the choreographic school in Riga. In Tallinn, as part of the tour of Russian theaters, an exhibition will be opened with the title "The play" Circus ".
International programs "Golden Mask" this year will end in Turkey in November, where he will take part in the Istanbul International Festival. At this festival, the Theater of Nations will show the play "Hamlet" with Yevgeny Mironov. As part of the educational program, Russian theater specialists will give lectures and conduct master classes.
