Quite often today there are disputes about whether computer games can be considered a modern art form. This is not an easy question. Before answering it, you should carefully understand the concept of culture and art.
In the classical sense, works of art are objects that represent something beautiful that can entertain a person. In addition, it must necessarily evoke aesthetic feelings in a person. If you look at computer games from this side, then they cannot be ranked as works of art. So, if you download counter-strike 1.6, then a great pastime is guaranteed, as well as aesthetic pleasure from the design of the game.
According to the general public, art is all objects that contribute to distraction from everyday life, evoke an emotional response and contribute to entertainment. If we consider computer games from this point of view, then they can be called a bright representative of modern mass culture. Most likely, the people who consider them to be art are exactly what they mean. Today, the boundaries between movies and games composed based on them have practically disappeared, because, in fact, they are designed to perform only one function - human entertainment.
In developed countries, everything has long been transferred to money. Every piece of art is a commodity. If you manage to get a large sum of money for a computer game, then it will definitely be called a masterpiece of modern culture, since everything is tied to commercial success.
Almost all computer games present artistic images to the player, but at the same time they use other types of art. All tasks of computer games are essentially divided into animation and text. Moreover, in most cases, they can be played separately from the game itself. You can even see cartoons made up of gambling videos on video hosting sites.
Some special sensations for a person are caused by the very entry into the world of virtual reality. Many people take games very seriously, realizing that the actions that take place in them completely depend on the actions of the player. Because of the appearance of such sensations, a computer game can be called art.
Computer games cannot be called a full-fledged form of art, but at the same time it is also wrong to say that they have nothing to do with it. In order to make play a part of culture, producers need to understand at what moments the aesthetic form leads to the creation of an artistic direction.
