The inhabitants of ancient cities did not know that the realities around them would someday in the future become subjects of study by archaeologists. This is how we live and do not think about the fact that someday our life will become history, and things around us - artifacts. But a French-German artist Cyprien Gaillard is already doing everything to preserve the cultural and design heritage of our days for posterity.
In some ways, the work of Cyprian Gaillard can be compared with the already sensational project several years ago to create artifacts of the modern world - fossils based on current gadgets and devices. However, the French-German artist approached this issue from a completely different angle.
Cyprian Gaillard decided to act as an outside observer, able to pay attention to the little things that seem completely meaningless to others. For example, one of his projects consists of images of sewer manholes collected by the artist in different parts of the world.
Remember how in childhood we copied coins, putting sheets of paper on them and drawing from above with a simple pencil? So Cyprian Gaillard is engaged in the same activity, only he does it on a much larger scale, and even puts a deep meaning into it.
Manholes are the fingerprints of cities. Thanks to these elements of infrastructure, you can learn a lot about the settlements, the atmosphere in them, the policy of the authorities and the level of funding from the budget.
These extraordinary works by Cyprian Gaillard are exhibited from November 13 to December 16, 2012 at Milan's Caserma XXIV Maggio gallery. And anyone can look at archaeological artifacts from the future right now.

Sculptures about how civilization puts pressure on nature. The work of Pim Palsgraaf
Where wild animals used to roam freely, trees and grasses that have now disappeared from the face of the earth grew, where birds, exotic at the moment, built their nests, today factories smoke, cars drive, houses are built, people walk … land, and often - in the immediate vicinity of large industrial centers and densely populated areas. No, I do not want to say that this is bad. From our point of view, no. But animals are gradually dying under the yoke of civilization
Knightly armor of the 16th century as a work of art: the work of a virtuoso gunsmith
Medieval knightly armor can be seen today in various museums around the world, but history has practically not brought the names of the masters of arms business to this day. Italian Filippo Negroli was a real virtuoso of coinage. He managed to turn helmets, shields and armor into exquisite jewelry, which knights flaunted on especially solemn occasions
