Very often people volunteers who take care of stray animals have to face indifference and even cruelty from people. They see how reckless owners tie their dogs on the street and leave them unattended, how they let their pets go for a walk - and they get lost or get hit by cars, how people deliberately bring their animals out of town to get rid of them. And therefore it is not surprising that when meeting a lost animal, many immediately begin to think only the worst.

So, the recent story in Thailand with the dog Leo caused a stir on the Internet. Leo is a medium-sized dog with white fur, domesticated and clearly not adapted to live outdoors. Four years ago, he suddenly showed up at a gas station outside the city and has continued to live there ever since, waiting for his family.

Leo - so the local residents called the dog, sat every day by the road at the turn and peered into the distance. He was very emaciated, he got fleas, he contracted shingles. His fur rolled into tangles, and not a trace of his former cheerfulness remained. Saovalak, a 45-year-old woman living nearby, once spotted Leo and was unable to walk by. She returned to him from home, bringing him food. After some time, when Leo ceased to be afraid of her, Saovalak took Leo to her home. However, the dog escaped and returned again to his post by the road.

Saovalak continued to feed the unfortunate dog, bringing him food right to the road. She tried several more times to take him home - but each time Leo persistently ran away - he was clearly waiting for his masters. Locals began to talk more and more about the dog and marvel at its loyalty. Many were sure that they had gotten rid of the dog on purpose - after all, in four years, loving owners would certainly have come and found him.

One of the locals, Anuchit, thought that if there was even a small chance that Leo had not really been abandoned and that his owners were still looking for him, we should take this chance. The guy posted a post on Facebook about Leo and his story and asked to share this post with his friends. Surprisingly, it worked! The family wrote to Anuchita, saying that Leo is very similar to their dog, BonBon, who got lost in 2015.

As the family said, in 2015 they drove along that road and stopped at a gas station literally for a short while, but found that their pet was gone already when they drove a decent distance. They returned to the gas station, but the dog was no longer there, and they thought that BonBon must have been hit by a car somewhere.

Together they went to Leo / BonBon. The dog was terribly delighted to see its old owners - it wagged its tail and barked, jumping around. However, when the women who previously owned BonBon offered the dog to go home with them, he refused. Suddenly the dog turned to Saovalak, the very woman who had been feeding him all these four years, and sat at her feet, refusing to leave.

The former BonBon family was sympathetic to the pet's decision. They promised that they would help Saovalak pay all the bills at the vet and help the dog with food. Anuchit, who told about this whole story on his Facebook page, admitted that Leo / BonBon's decision surprised his subscribers - they were sure that after so many years of waiting, he would probably happily leave for his former family. One way or another, the dog decided otherwise. Now he no longer runs away from Saovalak, now he has found his new home.
