In the fairy tale "Wild Swans", the heroine had to knit 11 nettle shirts to save the enchanted brothers, but student Emily Paquin set herself the task of drawing 100 cats from Internet memes. But not in order to save someone, but in order for her to have a kitten in the house herself. But it's not a fact that after the first hundred it will stop. By the way, the artist did it so well that her animated characters managed to gain frenzied popularity.
Every day Emily (aka Katvisi) publishes a new popular and beloved Internet cat on the Internet.
- Most of my characters are taken from popular memes that I find on the Internet via Instagram. I have always loved such funny photos and drawings with cats and I remember how as a child I printed out similar pictures and pasted them on my school notebooks, says Emily. - And, I must say, cats were the first thing that I generally learned to draw, and I have been drawing since early childhood.
Em is currently studying at an art college as an animator and illustrator, so the desire to draw such pictures seems quite natural. But why exactly a hundred cats and why set yourself such a record? So, let's tell everything in order …
Emily's project began on June 13th when she wanted to take home a stray kitten. The girl's parents were against it, and she decided in this way to convey her desire to the family members.
- I set a goal to draw cats every day until I myself can “adopt” a cat. For some time it seemed to me that I would draw them forever, doomed to never have a kitten, - says the girl.
However, magically, everything fell into place: on the 21st day, the family members gave in, and together with Emily, they adopted Beanie, a two-month-old kitten who was found on the street and taken to the shelter by rescuers. The girl's dream finally came true, and even much earlier than she finished painting her mustachioed-striped hundred!
And then it turned out that the aspiring artist was so involved in the process that she could no longer stop! Emily still wants to reach the “100” mark and admits that after this hundred, she may continue the “cat marathon”.
It takes Katwisi two to three hours to complete each illustration. It all depends on how much detail she wants to portray the character, and how busy she is that day.
- Usually I work on several cats at the same time, so I can be absolutely sure that every day I will be guaranteed a new drawing. One cat is always in stock. Yes, in order to implement a project, you have to plan everything in advance.
Meanwhile, there is not much time left until the hundredth day and the hundredth cat.
- If after a hundred days people do not get tired of my cat art, I will be glad to continue, - says the animator.
You can endlessly look at photos of cats. We offer to see 20 photos of sleeping cats, at the sight of which even the most indifferent person will have no doubt that they are the sweetest creatures in the world.
