Today on the pages of our magazine I would like to tell the reader about the Cuban artist Orestes Bouzon, who created a unique style of oil painting on fine silk, based on borrowing the techniques of the most ancient type of decorative art - batik. And it should be noted that such a transformation allowed the artist to find his own signature signature style and create a whole gallery of delightful works that excite the imagination of the viewer.
It so happened historically that batik is considered the most complex technique of decorative and applied art, which arose in Southeast Asia about 2000 years ago. And you will be surprised to learn that it became popular in Europe and America quite recently, namely in the twentieth century.
The ancient art of batik is famous for various traditions and varieties of performance, it is unique and unrepeatable, since it is difficult to predict in advance how the dye will behave on the fabric. Such a technique requires special skill and painstaking work from the artist, because no corrections are inappropriate here.
The peculiarity of painting on fabric, namely light bright color, streamlining of the pattern, decorativeness, was used by the Cuban artist, taking as the basis of his delightful works. And his graceful female images, so delicate and sensual, deeply touch the fans of this art form far beyond the borders of the United States of America, where Orestos Buson lives and works at the present time.
A little about the artist
Orestes Bouzon (born 1963) was born in Cuba in Havana. From an early age he is fond of drawing. As an introverted child, Orestes tried to express all his feelings with the help of brushes and paints, splashing them on paper. In 1980, Orestes entered the School of Art in San Alejandro, where he learned to see beauty in art and in life around him.
While still studying at this school, the aspiring artist found his unique pictorial style used in painting fabrics, so admiring today fans of his work. The sensuality and trepidation with which the master creates his creations help him to embody on his canvases all the beauty of life, permeated with light, bright colors and mood.
But it so happened that in his native country, Orestes as an artist remained not understood and recognized. At that time, under the ruling regime of Fidel Castro, the authorities on the island demanded a completely different art from the artists. Therefore, in 1994, Bouzon decided to flee Cuba, and thus, he fell to the naval base of Guantanamo (USA), where he spent more than a year, painting portraits of the Marines, their life. In return, only getting food and painting supplies. A year later, the artist was sent to the continent, where he settled and lives to this day. The master's studio and home is located in Miami (Florida).
The corporate style, invented by the master in the course of numerous experiments, quickly bore fruit - recognition and fame. Thus, using such a complex decorative technique, the artist creates paintings filled with inner positiveness and colorful coloring, where lovely girls, the heroines of all the master's paintings, appear before the viewer as soulful, graceful and delicately sensitive natures.
For more than two decades, his amazing works have been admiring and in great demand among lovers of exclusive decorative painting. His paintings are recognized in all countries of Latin America, the Caribbean, not counting the United States.
