On March 31, the famous theater and film actor, People's Artist of the RSFSR, Alexander Zbruev, turns 83. He played about 80 roles in films, but most are familiar from the movie "Big Change". Much less often TV channels now show the melodrama "A lonely woman wants to get to know each other." 35 years have passed since filming, and in the era of social networks and dating sites, no one seems to be an extraordinary situation when a woman herself takes the initiative in finding a second half. And in the mid-1980s. the story embodied on the screens by Alexander Zbruev and Irina Kupchenko seemed immoral to many.
How the film was conceived
Once the screenwriter and director Viktor Merezhko was walking with the child on the street and suddenly saw an ad on the post that struck him. On a piece of paper torn from a school notebook, it was written: "", and at the bottom - a phone number. For the early 1980s, when newspaper ads with similar content were very rare, this desperate step by an unknown woman seemed not only non-standard, but even incredible.
When Merezhko came home and told his wife about this, she did not believe him. Later he recalled: "". His screenplays were often born out of fleeting observations of everyday life, and one episode could later develop into a plot for a film. It happened this time too.
The writer tried to imagine what kind of woman could post such ads, and then rip them off, and what kind of men could respond to them. A plot immediately spun in his head, his imagination drew images of an elderly woman who doubted her attractiveness, and a drunken circus artist. In just a month, Merezhko wrote the script and named it after the phrase from that announcement.
Another creative victory of Irina Kupchenko
Director Vyacheslav Krishtofovich entrusted the main female role in the film to Irina Kupchenko. At that time, she was 38 years old, and her heroine, according to the script, was 43. This did not become a problem for the actress, because she was often offered in the cinema images of women with broken fates, who waved their hand at themselves. Kupchenko agreed to this role, hoping that she will be the last in the gallery of such images: "".
In her performance, the heroine did not look miserable and unhappy - Kupchenko created the image of a touching, feminine and incredibly charming heroine, who, despite all her doubts and fears, gives a chance for happiness to herself and to an unprepossessing gentleman in the eyes of others. Dressmaker Klava Pochukayeva turned out to be very close to the actress because this image resonated with her own ideas about the female essence and purpose.
Kupchenko said: "". In 1987, at the Montreal International Film Festival, the actress received the award for Best Actress in this film.
Unusual role of Alexander Zbruev
If the choice of Irina Kupchenko for the role of Claudia Pochukayeva seemed obvious and predictable to many, then the director's decision to give the role of a drunken loser without a fixed abode to Alexander Zbruev was completely unexpected and even illogical. This actor was offered completely different roles in the cinema, he looked like a real romantic hero, successful, prosperous, enjoying success with the opposite sex.
Contrary to expectations, the handsome and favorite of millions of spectators, Zbruev, with an unusual role for himself, coped brilliantly and created a very convincing image. The actor admitted that he was glad to be able to go beyond the image of a "good guy": "".
Immoral story
The plot of the film was not new - in many Soviet films the same topic was touched upon, there were the same elderly heroes who tried to arrange their personal life in different, sometimes non-standard ways ("Lonely is given a hostel", "In love at will", "The most charming and attractive "). However, the method that the heroine of Irina Kupchenko chose for herself seemed too extravagant to many viewers, and her attempt to “offer herself” by an ad and publicly declare her loneliness was simply outrageous and immoral.
The public reaction was mixed: heated debates began among critics and spectators. Someone was shocked by the image of Alexander Zbruev, someone believed that Irina Kupchenko was not convincing in this role, that her character was too difficult for a dressmaker. One thing was undoubtedly: the filmmakers raised really acute and not losing their relevance issues that cause wide resonance in society.
Later, Viktor Merezhko was called one of the main experts on female characters in Russian cinema, and the scriptwriter himself admitted: "". Perhaps that is why there was an open ending in the film "A Single Woman Wants to Meet".
He was one of the most sought-after Soviet actors, but in the new century, viewers rarely saw new films with his participation: Why in the past 20 years Alexander Zbruev rarely appeared on screens.
