Have you ever watched a movie for the first time and thought you had already seen it? This is because Hollywood loves to release films with the same storyline twice a year. Of course, there are a lot of movies on the same topic, even the characters can be the same, but I can't call these tapes the same. But with the films from this collection, everything is completely different. Let's try to figure out why this is so?

Looking through the products of Hollywood cinema, you can notice an interesting pattern: many films are not just similar, but completely identical. Even the advertisements for these films were pretty much the same!

In Hollywood, usually seeing the success of a movie, they release another similar one. Commerce is, without a doubt, above all else. It is no coincidence that Hollywood is called a factory. There are certain rules and a set of structures for success that many directors follow when making films. But some films completely copy each other.

1. "Friendship sex" and "More than sex"

Romantic comedies are completely identical in the meaning of the plot. In both films, the heroes plunge into sex without obligation, in order to eventually understand that they need these very obligations. And … A surprise! Love happy ending!

2. "Quiet place" and "Bird box"

Two paintings with a post-apocalyptic scent. In one, you must always be silent, or terrible monsters will appear for you and destroy. In the other, you cannot look at the new world, otherwise you will die. And there, and there, in the center of the plot is a mother saving her children. The lover of philosophy and allegories will like the "Bird box" more. It is deeper in essence and fascinates with understatement where everything becomes clear in "Quiet Place".

3. "The Fall of Olympus" and "The Assault on the White House"

Both films have grossed impressive box office funding

Two absolutely identical militants about terrorists who dream of assassinating the US president and attacking the White House. Both have collected huge box office. The Fall of Olympus also spawned two sequels.

4. "Sea Battle" and "Pacific Rim"

Two action movies about an alien invasion. In both tapes, the action takes place in the Pacific Ocean. The plot moves, the climax are the same. Only the actors and surroundings change.

5. "Skyscraper", "Rampage" and "San Andreas Rift"

Despite the apparent difference in the plot of the films, they are made the same by similar techniques, emotional load, and as a pleasant bonus - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson starring each of them.

6. "Life of Beetles" and "Antz"

Great CG animation from rival studios

Both beautifully kind cartoons, created with the help of computer animation by Pixar and DreamWorks, tell about the life of insects. A scandalous story is associated with the ribbons. DreamWorks directors Jeffrey Katzenberg even accused Pixar bosses of plagiarism. To stay ahead of the competition, Katzenberg even released his film ahead of schedule. However, the box office for Life of Beetles was still incomparably higher. There is justice.

7. "Snow White. Revenge of the Dwarfs "and" Snow White and the Huntsman"

Two Snow White at once

What these films really have in common is that both of them are based on the plot of the famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The first is a comedy, where Julia Roberts just amazingly played the role of a stepmother, with an unexpected ending and not very strict adherence to the canon of a fairy tale. The second picture is a serious and accurate adaptation of a well-known plot, slightly gloomy, but still very exciting.

8. "Sushi girl" and "Under the Tuscan sun"

Romantic stories with a light philosophical touch

The film "Under the Tuscan Sun" has spawned many similar films. "Sushi girl" is one of them. According to the plot, young women, having experienced disappointment in their personal lives, go to other countries in search of new meanings, occupations and in order to rediscover themselves. Light pictures for a pleasant pastime, for relaxation of the brain.

9. "Impact with the Abyss" and "Armageddon"

Tapes about the cosmic threat and human relations
Tapes about the cosmic threat and human relations

In both films, our planet is threatened by the complete destruction of an asteroid. Both have a cool star cast. In both "Collision" and "Armageddon," brave astronauts detonate an asteroid. The earth has survived everywhere. The first attracts with its humanity, you can call it a hymn to life. The adornment of the second, of course, is the hit of the group "Aerosmith" "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing".

10. "Monster House" and "Don't Breathe"

Similar stories about houses where teenagers shouldn't go. Not all survived. Films will not leave you indifferent. Despite the fact that the first is a cartoon, but not at all for children. Good movies for a Halloween night.

11. "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano"

Spectacular and dramatic

Pierce Brosnan and Tommy Lee Jones pass the baton to each other. First "Bondiana" now films about volcanoes. In both tapes, the main characters try to convince everyone of the seriousness of what is happening, but they fail until people begin to die. That's right, otherwise there would be no cinema.

12. "Sherlock" and "Elementary"

The stories about the ingenious detective of the pen Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes have as many as 292 film adaptations around the world. These adaptations are united by the fact that they read the story of Conan Doyle in a modern way. Both films are good. The hero of "Elementary" is closer to the image of Sherlock from the novel: he is sloppy, he is also a former drug addict. The hero of Cumberbatch turned out to be great, but a dude in essence, which alienates him from the image of the classic Holmes.

On my own I will add that there are so many adaptations about the famous detective, but the good old Soviet classics are beyond competition.

13. "Prestige" and "Illusionist"

Both paintings are so good in their own way that it is unclear which one is better
Both paintings are so good in their own way that it is unclear which one is better

Both films are about illusionists. The first is about the rivalry between two magicians. In the second, there is more romance. While watching both pictures, you will not find any special analogies, but the ending will force you to compare them over and over again.

Historical analyst Daniel P. Calvisi says it's important to distinguish between formula and form. “The formula will dictate what you write. The form dictates how you structure it, at what point you uncover things, at which point the story should keep moving forward and keep flowing, not stop in place or just spill out into eight-page dialogue. So this is not a formula, it is a form."

It really depends on how well the film explores certain themes and characters. So, if someone else has already done something similar, then the filmmakers take on certain obligations. They need to come up with something new and original to complete the picture.

So why do studios go to create similar paintings to each other? Maybe because it's easier to walk the beaten path, and risking your reputation for the sake of something fundamentally new is scary. Or maybe it's just a rejection of creative ambitions in favor of banal commercial success. After all, there is never a lot of money.
