This concentration camp stands out among many others organized by the fascist leadership over a vast territory from Germany to the Soviet Union, in that, in addition to adult prisoners, a huge number of children from six years old and younger were kept here. A separate barrack was built for them, in which juvenile prisoners were not detained. They died from disease, hunger, cold, medical experiences and neglect from adults.

A child's cry was choked And melted like an echo, Woe with sorrowful silence Floats over the Earth, Above you and above me.

Another common cause of death of children in Salaspils was the selection of blood for German soldiers. After several such vampire procedures, the babies died of exhaustion. Every year of the camp's existence, about three thousand juvenile prisoners died in it.
