Now all over the United States of America there is a loud social campaign with the name Read Across Americawhose goal is popularization of books among the population and, first of all, among children. It was as part of this campaign on the doorstep of the New York Public Library that sculpture from books eight meters high.
It's no secret that people have read fewer and fewer books in recent decades. They are replaced by television, the Internet and other temptations. And this applies not only to Russia, but also to Europe, and the United States of America, and practically all other countries of the world.
But it is in the United States that they are especially concerned about this trend. That is why the social campaign "Read Across America" began here, which aims to attract Americans to books again. Especially young Americans, many of whom are completely foreign to reading. Perhaps it is still alien.
This campaign also touched upon New York, which is considered the intellectual center of the world. Here, on the doorstep of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue in the block between 40th and 42nd Streets, a huge sculpture eight meters high, made from books, appeared a few weeks ago.
Moreover, not from random, but from the books of Dr. Seuss - the famous children's author who did a lot in the 20th century in order to teach children to read books. Here are the organizers of this event and hope that his experience, his developments will be relevant in the 21st century.
This sculpture is a huge word "Read", composed of twenty-five thousand books by Dr. Seuss. It looks especially impressive at night with special lighting. So New Yorkers see this social call “Read” at any time of the day.
The sculpture from the books will stand on the doorstep of the New York Public Library for several weeks, after which these books will be transferred to all schools in the city.
