Painter David Cooley (David Cooley) comes from the city of Santa Barbara, which is well known to Russian television viewers in the mid-1990s. In his work, he skillfully combines different techniques: he easily combines the base in the form of a traditional oil painting with a patterned backdrop.
David Cooley hasn't been on the contemporary American art scene for too long. His first exhibition took place in 2010; nevertheless, over the past three years, the artist has managed to seriously expand the arsenal of his expressive means. These include oil and acrylic painting, graffiti, resin drawings and collages made from fragments of fabric. Quite often all this gets along within the framework of a single job.
Cooley's signature technique is the application of paint in tiny "dots", or drops. The artist himself claims that "a basic knowledge of geometry" helps him "to achieve greater precision in form and depth." Unusual combinations of elaborate design and embroidered ornamentation in the background only contribute to the paradoxical appeal of the artist's works.
Despite the fact that Cooley hails from Santa Barbara, like other American artists, he aspires to New York - where the most various exhibitionsconfirming the city's rights to the role of the US "cultural capital". Several of Cooley's works will soon be on display at New York's Thinkspace Gallery; the same exhibition will feature other contemporary artists, including Ana Bagayan, Yosuke Ueno and the already familiar Kulturologia.ru Brian Viveros.
