See the city on the water - Venice - the dream of thousands of tourists in the world. What could be more romantic than a gondola ride through narrow canals? However, in recent years, travelers who come to Italy face a strong disappointment: in winter, the canals dry up, and it seems that the city is simply drained of blood.
For the third year in a row, the townspeople and guests of Venice have been observing an unusual picture: the canals, along which gondolas usually ply, stand without water. It's dirty outside, and the lack of sewerage in the historic center makes itself felt: purified sewage water is usually discharged into canals, and thanks to the ebb and flow of the tide, the water in the canals is purified and refreshed. Now this process has been disrupted.
There is one more problem: the transport system in the city practically does not work. When the water level drops by 50-60 cm, the gondolas can hardly move through the channels. Considering that the city is on the water, and there is no land transport in the city, people hardly get to work, an ambulance cannot arrive promptly on calls, and some areas remain “cut off” at all.
Instead of a romantic atmosphere in the center, there are gondolas on the silted bank. Such a sight looks dull. The reason for the shallowing of the canals is climatic changes: severe ebbs and droughts in winter. The Venetians can only hope for heavy rainfall.
Unfortunately, the situation with the canals is aggravated in winter, just when the famous carnival takes place in Venice. Tourists who have come to enjoy the wonderful views this year are truly disappointed. In normal mode, only the Grand Canal works, but on other streets it will not work to walk on the water, the gondoliers announced that they would suspend skiing.
If you still want to plunge into the atmosphere of beauty and romance, take a look a luxurious short film about Venice! In a three-minute video, you can see those parts of the city that are not written about in advertising brochures!
