Thousands of people flock to Venice every day to see the famous city on the water. But today's tourists have failed. It seems incredible, but now the water is gone, all the canals are shallow, and the gondolas and boats are bogged down in the fetid mud.
For the second year in a row, the water level in Venice reaches an all-time low. The city has lost its main attraction - picturesque canals, which now stand without water. A deplorable sight opens up in front of tourists: gondolas and boats, bogged down in a layer of silt and mud.
The exceptional water drop in Venice is caused by the abnormal ebb and flow this year, combined with a sharp drop in rainfall throughout northeastern Italy. This phenomenon is more than surprising, given the fact that Venice is more and more submerged under water every year.
The low tide caused not only draining of the canals, it exposed the bottom of the canals, which is now an unpleasant sight. The channels have not been cleaned for many years, so now you can see mountains of garbage that were thrown into the water. In addition, an excessively silted bottom becomes a real problem for boats, on the propellers of which algae and mud are often wound.
The sinking of the canals (albeit for a short time) can lead to a real disaster in Venice. Low water levels result in the destruction of exposed brick layers in the foundations of old buildings. The city also has a problem with sewerage, which, in the modern sense, is absent here in principle. Previously, people dumped all their waste into the water. To date, wastewater treatment systems have been installed in large buildings. However, there is still a certain amount of leakage that spreads a characteristic fetid odor throughout the city.
The problem of ebb and flow, which entails flooding or dehydration in Venice, must be solved by a protective barrier. It is a mobile gate that restrains the movement of flood waters into the bay. This project is very expensive, and the local authorities are in no hurry to allocate huge amounts of money for its early implementation.
The sinking of the canals was not the only anomaly that befell the city on the water. Several years ago due to abnormal frost Venice was frozen in ice.

Why the artist, on whose postcards a whole generation grew up, was left without work: Vladimir Zarubin
Lovely hares, bears and hedgehogs have become an integral part of Soviet holidays. They were painted on the windows on New Year's Eve (and even they still do it), diligently copied, decorating wall newspapers or posters. The author of the whole world of funny animals was Vladimir Ivanovich Zarubin. Over 30 years of work, more than 1.5 billion postcards and envelopes with his drawings have been published, but the artist died practically in poverty
