Usually we treat advertising, whether it be TV spots or posters on the streets of the city, with dislike at least. However, contemporary art can offer a great alternative - conceptual, very strange photos in which the advertised item or company is shown in an unusual setting. Photographer Nguyen Khuong, who takes catchy fabulous photos for a shoe company, is one of his typical representatives.
Nguyen Khuong is an extremely versatile photographer. His works are usually united by one theme, which the photographer chooses independently of his previous work. There is little information about him, but his peculiar works surface from time to time at exhibitions of various studios, or are used by seasoned companies like Citroen for advertising. In addition to collaborating with studios and firms, Nguyen Khuong works for himself (in particular, the cutest collection of photographs of crying men and women wrestlers).
One of his latest projects, implemented for the shoe company Christian Louboutin, is somewhat reminiscent of installations by Petros Chrisostomo, with his huge objects in the interior. Or rather, not something, but a giant shoe, which is present in all the photos of the series called "Winter Stories." It is this thing, together with other, smaller details, that makes each work so interesting and very strange. As, however, the work of so many modern photographers working in the field of advertising - remember at least the amazing photos of Andrea Giacobe, whose advertising work is more reminiscent of Lynch's work.
Regardless of which company Nguyen Khuong works for, all of his works are like some strange fairy tales. It could be a story about tough fighters who can't hold back their tears after a fight, or something like a fantastic manifesto. It is not very clear why advertising companies need such photos, and what Nguyen Khuong really wanted to tell them, but, nevertheless, they are worth at least one viewing.
