The deafening success of "Slave of Izaura" made Russian (already) TV channels think about how the series are beneficial to television. And already in the nineties, own and long-term projects began to appear in Russia. The first, not yet familiar and therefore extremely popular.

"Queen Margot" and "Countess de Monsoreau"

In the Soviet Union, they were very fond of reading Dumas. On the one hand, intrigue, beautiful alien life, love passions and a little light, lightest eroticism. On the other hand, you seem to be reading something historical and at the same time classics of foreign literature, that is, something that makes you feel like an intelligent person.

All in all, it's no surprise that generations of Dumas-grown adults have stuck to screens, watching their favorite characters take on flesh, lace, jewelry and beautiful backgrounds. Almost all the male characters of both series automatically became sex symbols for legs covered with stockings (which, it turns out, perfectly emphasize male muscles) and constantly stripping swords (Freud has something to say about this).

In the series, wonderful actresses shone, but they watched it anyway for the sake of the men in the frame. There was a shortage of beautiful male legs on television

"Little things in life" and "Goryachev and others"

Now it is impossible to imagine what Russian viewers could find in these surprisingly boring stories. In one, a married couple is simultaneously experiencing the collapse of the USSR and their marriage union, in the other - an illegal entrepreneur who served time for fraud, returns to a completely unfamiliar post-Soviet reality and faces "wild capitalism." But in the nineties, both series went off with a bang, and the Goryachev actors were even actively pursued by fans. Because the main thing in a man was considered a sense of humor, and the heroes of the series had enough of it.

Perhaps the success of both shows is due not only to the fact that they were the first soap operas, but also to the fact that they helped to survive the dramatic changes in the life of the country, looking at their feelings and problems from the outside.

Streets of Broken Lanterns

Although the series was released in the very late nineties, but it is - a direct continuation of the passion for police TV shows, such as "Miami Police" and "Cool Walker", mid-nineties. They have cops, we have cops. They are principled, and we will have spiritual ones. And, of course, although with shortcomings, they still protect us every day - I really wanted to believe in that.

The series, not differing in any super-concept or special cinematography, gained popularity just instantly. There were rumors that screenwriters day and night leafing through the binder of real crime news of the nineties in order to find a new plot - they say, everything in life is wrapped up more abruptly than you can think of yourself. For Selin, the name of his character - Dukalis, was stuck for centuries, and grandmothers at the entrance to Larin performed by Nilov said: here, they say, you have to go to such a marriage. Inexpressive appearance, of course, but what an honest person! It was later that the details of Nilov's family scandals became known - which led to the fact that some of the spectators were disappointed at the same time in Larina and in the series.

There is such a meme: "It was already in The Simpsons." So, among fans of the series there is something similar: when you see something in the news, say that you saw it already in “Cops”, that is, “Streets of Broken Lanterns”, and add that you need to call Dukalis.

Strawberry

Another mega-popular foreign-made TV series was the Spanish "Pharmacy on duty" - in it one of the city's pharmacies is located so that almost all the residents of the area unwillingly push around there, and something is constantly happening in front of its doors. Yuri Belenky, transferring the concept of the series to domestic soil, replaced the pharmacy with a family cafe, which is struggling to survive. It is held by the Koshkins, and it is located in the courtyard, so that a passer-by can easily be involved in any non-standard situation near the cafe tables.

The series came out not as sparkling as "Pharmacy", but it also had its fans, mainly attracted by such actors as Krachkovskaya, Aronova, Buldakov and Lenkov. Alas, only Maria Aronova is still alive. Most recently, she starred in the leading role in the historical film "Battalion".

Thinking about why the scriptwriters decided to name the cafe so strange, many assumed that the name should have caught the eye of the viewer who was not yet fed up with eroticism and was a little intriguing. In the series, for the cafe, they simply stole the first suitable cute sign - from kindergarten.

Petersburg secrets

One of the best TV series of the nineties, which still has its own army of fans. It was filmed based on The Petersburg Slums, an adventure novel of the second half of the nineteenth century, whose author, Vsevolod Krestovsky, was clearly inspired by the notes of the famous detective Vidocq about the slums and secrets of Paris.

The novel, at the peak of its popularity, was rightly criticized for the language replete with bureaucratic turns, and many believed that the constant highlighting of the unsightly aspects of the life of the capital made the novel generally tabloid. But when filming the series, the plot was made more refined, the language was alive, and the cast was just brilliant: Elena Yakovleva, Natalya Gundareva, Lydia Fedoseeva-Shukshina, Nikolai Karachentsov, Galina Polskikh and a special favorite of the public - Viktor Avilov.
