Wedding worries every girl. It was so many centuries ago, and it is so today. But if at present the bride's thoughts are occupied by the organization of the celebration, that is, drawing up a list of guests, renting a restaurant, inviting musical groups, buying a chic dress and other things, then in Russia young brides experienced the greatest anxiety because of their wedding night. The husband was the only partner in life, so an intimate relationship with him was of great importance. As the first night goes by, so will life. Therefore, they prepared very carefully for the wedding night. Many rituals were dedicated to her, and parents, relatives and friends tried to help the newlyweds in everything.

Bride in the bath to soar - to help turn from a girl into a spouse

Before the wedding, bath rituals were necessarily carried out, which were intended for the bride to make a conditional transition from the status of a girl to a spouse. The bathhouse was carefully prepared by the forces of the future wife's relatives so that she could cleanse herself of the past and enter a new life. Having prepared everything, they called the bride and took her to the bathhouse.

Girlfriends soared from the heart of the young, washing away fears, insecurity, troubles from her. A birch broom was used, into which branches of fruit-bearing shrubs and fruit trees were sometimes added. This was done so that in the future a woman could give birth to many healthy children.

How they drove away evil spirits from the young and why the healers collected sweat from the bride

When the bride was cleanly washed, she was taken home. Relatives surrounded the girl with a crowd, and made a loud noise on the way from the bathhouse to the hut. This was done to scare away evil spirits that could harm the young. Very often a woman with a broom led the procession, she pretended to sweep garbage, pebbles, dirt from the road.

The healer occupied a special place. She was hired by the parents of the young woman for a very peculiar activity - to collect the bride's sweat in the steam room. The witch doctor kept this precious liquid and, during the wedding, discreetly poured it into the groom's glass, while reading special plots. It was believed that such manipulation would arouse strong feelings in young people and help them fall in love with each other even more. They took not only the bride to the bathhouse, but also the groom. He was accompanied by his relatives and boyfriend.

Festive feasts during the wedding were organized not only in order to amuse the guests, but also so that a strong passion flared up between the young. It was necessary to liberate the girl, remove the embarrassment. And they did it shouting "Bitter!" and forcing the young to kiss.

There are many opinions about the origin of this wedding cry. For example, it is said that the point was to sweeten the supposedly bitter food or drink with a kiss. However, in fact, this word came from the Old Russian verb "goriti", which means to burn, to blaze. Everything becomes clear. Shouting out "Bitter!" the guests hint to the newlyweds that they expect hot, passionate kisses from them, and the point is not at all about the bitter food. Although today it is the first option that is used - one of the guests tries something from the table and pretends that the treat is bitter. Of course, he immediately shares his discovery with the rest.

When a large number of people shout the same word at the same time, the newlyweds forget about shyness. By the way, in old Russia, young people were forbidden to drink alcohol at a wedding. Hot kisses should have been enough for them.

Ditties on the verge of decency as a way to liberate the bride

So, it is clear that many wedding rituals are aimed at the liberation of the young. The songs, conspiracies and jokes performed by the guests served the same purpose. It was believed that this is how the bride could tune in a certain way, stop being shy, and burn with passion for the groom. Frivolous ditties were sung very often and the young had to listen to them.

When the bride and groom were escorted to the basement, where they had to be alone, this was also done with loud singing. The ditties were very immodest, containing hints and indecent jokes. It was believed that such songs are simply necessary for a happy marriage in the future. Going to bed, the newlyweds took boiled chicken and bread with them. This food symbolized fertility, which was extremely important. By the way, when the bird was served to the table, everyone understood that the time had come for the solitude of the young.

In the morning, the newly-made husband began to ask if everything went well. Only, of course, not directly, but allegorically. For example, he might be asked how he feels. If the answer was "everything is fine, I am in good health", it meant that intimacy took place. Only after that was it considered that a new family had been created.

The wedding bed for the young was prepared carefully, usually the groom's mother and relatives were engaged in this. The first night of the young people passed in the basement, that is, in the utility room, which was not heated. There were many little things that had to be observed. For example, 21 sheaves of wheat were often used as the basis of the bed, and a tub of honey was placed in the bed nearby, which symbolized a sweet and pleasant future life. And of course, you could also taste the honey, because it improved your mood.

The bed was covered with a marten fur coat. It was believed that affectionate pleasant fur will surely enhance female sexuality and liberate the young. So that during the first night evil spirits did not interfere, a rowan twig was placed under the feather bed. She not only scared away evil spirits, but also helped conception. It would seem that all rituals are aimed at emancipation and pleasure. Yes it is, but the ultimate goal was precisely the birth of children, the continuation of the family. And from a desired person, children are also desirable.

Well, after the wedding, husbands gave their wives nicknames. Yes such, that modern women would certainly be offended.
