It was believed that such manipulation would arouse strong feelings in young people and help them fall in love with each other even more. They took not only the bride to the bathhouse, but also the groom. He was accompanied by his relatives and boyfriend.

Festive feasts during the wedding were organized not only in order to amuse the guests, but also so that a strong passion flared up between the young. It was necessary to liberate the girl, remove the embarrassment. And they did it shouting "Bitter!" and forcing the young to kiss.
There are many opinions about the origin of this wedding cry. For example, it is said that the point was to sweeten the supposedly bitter food or drink with a kiss. However, in fact, this word came from the Old Russian verb "goriti", which means to burn, to blaze. Everything becomes clear. Shouting out "Bitter!" the guests hint to the newlyweds that they expect hot, passionate kisses from them, and the point is not at all about the bitter food. Although today it is the first option that is used - one of the guests tries something from the table and pretends that the treat is bitter. Of course, he immediately shares his discovery with the rest.
When a large number of people shout the same word at the same time, the newlyweds forget about shyness. By the way, in old Russia, young people were forbidden to drink alcohol at a wedding. Hot kisses should have been enough for them.

When the bride and groom were escorted to the basement, where they had to be alone, this was also done with loud singing. The ditties were very immodest, containing hints and indecent jokes. It was believed that such songs are simply necessary for a happy marriage in the future. Going to bed, the newlyweds took boiled chicken and bread with them. This food symbolized fertility, which was extremely important. By the way, when the bird was served to the table, everyone understood that the time had come for the solitude of the young.
In the morning, the newly-made husband began to ask if everything went well. Only, of course, not directly, but allegorically. For example, he might be asked how he feels. If the answer was "everything is fine, I am in good health", it meant that intimacy took place. Only after that was it considered that a new family had been created.

The wedding bed for the young was prepared carefully, usually the groom's mother and relatives were engaged in this. The first night of the young people passed in the basement, that is, in the utility room, which was not heated. There were many little things that had to be observed.
