Of course, not everyone can visit the English county of Wiltshire to see with their own eyes the world-famous Stonehenge. But it may not be necessary. How about wearing mysterious megaliths on your finger? Perhaps size doesn't always matter! At least that's what British jewelry designer Theo Fennell thought. And he created a gold ring with a mini-copy of the famous Stonehenge.
The unique piece is worth 22,000 pounds sterling, which equals 27,000 US dollars. The ring has a secret compartment, which were used in the Middle Ages to store poisons (at least, this move is often seen in historical films and old fairy tales).
Only instead of a deadly powder, when you open the lid, you can see mysterious megaliths. This is a real Stonehenge, only very small - as if you are looking at it from a bird's eye view.
Fennell did his job as accurately as possible - here you can see even the smallest objects of Stonehenge. It took six months to make the ring.
Fennell and his team have been working at the Fulham Road jewelry design studio for over 40 years, and he is familiar with creating these "opening rings". Mini Stonehenge is not the only unique object created by the team over the past decades. For example, jewelers made mini-images of slain gladiators, the Joshua tree in the California desert, and many other interesting things.
The ring with the UNESCO World Heritage miniature is called gold, but if you look closely, you can see that it includes both diamonds and sky blue tourmaline (the dome of the ring, which is essentially the cover of the secret compartment). Moreover, the moons and stars are depicted on one side of the ring, and the scorching sun on the other.
Fennell explains that he loves such challenging tasks. “The more complex the ring and the more skill it takes to make it, the better. Our design studio loves ambitious projects to brag about,”he admits.
The ring was made to order and after its production, the designers did not rush to look for a buyer at all. According to the designer, they made it not at all out of selfish motives, but rather out of respect for a unique historical landmark and in honor of the summer solstice (which, recall, took place on June 21).
Designers believe that the ring may be interesting both to those who have never been to Stonehenge and does not have the opportunity to visit it, and to those who have already seen it with their own eyes and want to “have it with them” as a souvenir. Moreover, excursionists are strictly prohibited from breaking off fragments from real megaliths, and such an act is punishable by a large fine.
By the way, scientists have come close to solving secrets of the origin of Stonehenge.
