Oakland-based artist Aaron Nagel has never learned to paint anywhere. He did not attend the Academy of Fine Arts, did not take private lessons, did not imitate the famous masters of the brush and easel. He is called a nugget artist who was gifted by God himself. However, for some reason his talent only extends to female portraits. So, the most famous series of paintings by Aaron Nagel is women in the images of strong but unfortunate warriors, who, however, can be called victims.
In the discussion of the genre in which Aaron works, the newly created term "realistic surrealism" often creeps in. If we do not go into genre philosophy, then everything that we see in the paintings can be called one sentence - strength and helplessness.
Often times, women take a hit when protecting a child or their family. But they themselves need protection, being both strong and helpless. All this Aaron Nagel paints in oil on canvas, turning words into images.
