For many modern photographers, it is not enough to simply photograph people or landscapes. They definitely want to bring something to their work that can surprise. Gabriel Wickbold is one of those. He pours buckets of paint, chocolate, coconut wines and other substances on his victims, transforming them into something unimaginable and capturing this in the project “sexy colors. Some of this is surprising, but something, I'm not afraid of this expression, takes the brain out!
In general, the idea itself in this way to diversify the languor of models awaiting shooting is by no means new - let us recall at least the colorful photographs of Ian Crawford. The 25-year-old Brazilian photographer took this idea to its apotheosis by creating something unthinkable with his models. On his models, he pours coconut wines, gouache, chocolate, sprays paint from a spray bottle, sprinkles sand and cosmetics. Moreover, the order of such processing of the model may vary.
Gabriel Wickbold himself talks about his creative path the following: “I tried different types of art, different ways to express myself. I wrote poetry, then I became a musician. I was also a TV presenter. To be honest, I never studied to be a photographer. It seems to me that anyone can be a photographer. The only difference is in the composition and feeling of each photographer.” Well, Gabriel's feelings, judging by his work, are stormy, bright and explosive. "Sexy Colors" is a riot of all the colors of the rainbow. Sometimes you can't even see a person behind a layer of paint!
The essence of this cycle of works is to reveal human sexuality from a new angle. As Gabriel explains, "the paint that covers the girl's body at the same time opens her soul, revealing the inner world." The statements are very strange, but, one way or another, Gabriel Wickbold, with his unusual technique, achieves excellent results and resonates with the public. The works of this cycle will soon be exhibited in New York and other cities.
"Sexy Colors" is just one of 6 series of works presented on Gabriel's website.
