Like exploding rainbows, Jen Stark's work bursts with color and creativity. Inspired by intricate patterns in nature, the artist uses mountains of colored paper to create delicate geometric sculptures.
“I find sources of inspiration in science, infinity, in the potential of simple things and the display of color. It is a great pleasure to do what I want. It is like a kind of meditation that brings incomparable satisfaction. In my work, I try to improve and improve what I do,”says Jen.
By the way, when a girl talks about science and nature as sources of inspiration, she means quite unexpected things. "My sister is a doctor and often brings home anatomy books that show cross-sections of tissue." Jen examines the illustrations, interprets them creatively and interprets them in her work.
Depending on the size of the work and the degree of its complexity, Jen Stark spends on its creation from a few days to a week or two. First, the artist creates a sketch of her work, then carefully selects the colors. Then she cuts out the layers of paper one by one. In her work, the girl uses only an X-Acto knife, a ruler, a pencil and sometimes a compass. All of her paper sculptures are handmade, and Jen admits that this work requires a lot of patience.
The artist's paper works are very popular with children - probably because of their brightness and flamboyance. But adults, as Jen says, often tend to touch her sculptures to see what they are made of; the artist does not approve of this, because paper is a fragile and short-lived material. “Probably, someday I will create a special sculpture so that people can touch it and take it apart,” the girl says with a laugh.
Jen Stark was born in Miami, Florida in 1983. In 2005, she received her BA from the Maryland Institute of Arts. More information about the author on the site.
