Do you believe in huge chicks that could easily crush a human? Or half-fish-half-horse? However, the existence of the latter was not doubted by the ancient Greeks and called these mysteries of nature hippocampus. A lover of ancient Greek mythology and surrealist painting, Jeff Jordan combines both of his passions in works that do not belong either to the classical tradition or to the purebred surreal. It's more of a magical realism.
American artist Jeff Jordan lives in California. Although, judging by his work, he lives in a funny and amazing world. In a world dominated by magical realism. The principle "If you need to explain, then you don't need to explain" dominates here. If the idea of strange hybrids of anything with anything is close to you, then the explanation is superfluous. And if additional comments are required on how everything works and why it is so, and not otherwise, then still hardly a skeptic will believe in a magical reality - and any disputes are useless.
“My favorite art is surrealism,” says Jeff Jordan. - And the most interesting surrealists in the world are the ancient Greeks. I have many questions for them. For example, what led to the idea of centaurs, mermaids and other hybrid creatures? And if these creatures really appeared in our world, would it be the result of genetic mutation or environmental pollution?"
Jeff Jordan claims that he felt like an artist when he was 4 years old. And since then, for almost 40 years now, he has been unable to stop and draw. Often, before taking up brushes and paints, the master makes a collage of the photos he likes - these are his first sketches. Every time Jeff Jordan takes on a new canvas, he feels like a real creator. And when he finishes his work, he feels that he still has to study and study.
It's funny that Jeff Jordan was born on May 11, on the same day with two other artists - Jean-Leon Jerome and Salvador Dali. The latter clearly needs no introduction. And Jean-Leon Gerome is a French academic artist who depicted ancient and oriental life. Jeff Jordan considers both of them to be his teachers, so the hybrid nature of his work is not surprising either.
