To many critics the sculptural project Laura Ford (Laura Ford) entitled "Crying girls" (Weeping girls) seems to be "sad and beautiful", but some viewers may have goosebumps from a one-on-one meeting with girls frozen in mournful poses, whose face cannot be seen behind long tangled hair. Few people want to stay alone with them in the forest.
Sculptor Laura Ford is from Cardiff, Wales. Project Weeping girls was done by Laura for a Scottish amusement park Jupiter Artland - five sculptures are installed in five different places of the park, among thickets and dense bushes. “The girls are asking to be found” - this is the general concept of the installation; the plot lines of the most nightmarish Japanese horror movies immediately pop up in my head.
The idea of the sculptural cycle was inspired by the story of an acquaintance, who, in turn, retold an unusual incident with his own daughter. She "sobbed in a fit of inconsolable rage and anger" and "at the same time did not stop watching herself in the mirror," which gave rise to a very strange effect. The influence of the story is perfectly felt in the sculptural images of girls, which not only look ominous, but are also overwhelmed with emotion.
Frightened and embittered little girls are the favorite heroines not only of oriental filmmakers, but also of many contemporary art workers, such as Anne-Julie Aubrey and Ken Wong … To Laura Ford's credit, I must admit that she not only chose a catchy theme, but also managed to find the perfect location for installing her sculptures. Critics point out that works from the cycle Weeping girls "look perfect" against the backdrop of the natural beauty of Scotland and thanks to this "even more amaze with their skill, detailed elaboration of hair, garments and so on."
