The stuffed toys created by German author Martin Kittsteiner seem quite normal at first glance. They have all parts of the body in place, there are no predatory grins or anything like that. But the look of these plush creatures is too sad, and this is no accident: it turns out that they all suffer … mental disorders.
There are five characters in the collection, each with its own name and diagnosis. The turtle Dub is deeply depressed, and the rattlesnake Sly suffers from hallucinations. Dolly the sheep has a split personality: she thinks she is a wolf. Crocodile Croco suffers from paranoid psychosis (afraid of water), and Lilo the hippopotamus was diagnosed with a mysterious disease, due to which he does not react to the world around him, but only collects a simple wooden puzzle for months.
“It all started as a joke,” says 36-year-old Martin Kittsteiner. “My girlfriend has a lot of stuffed toys, and one day this idea came to our minds.” According to the author, children love the vulnerability of these creatures, they pity them, care and strive to help them recover. And adults shouldn't be left on the sidelines: Martin believes that for them communication with “sick” toys can become a kind of therapy.
It started out as a joke and turned into a good business. On the website parapluesch.de, you can not only buy the hero you like (price - 29.90 EUR), but also play an online game, the meaning of which is to diagnose toy patients. The bestseller at the moment is the crocodile Croco.
