Katharina Grosse is rightfully considered one of the most inventive artists of recent years. Her work is characterized by the fusion of painting with architectural elements and sculpture, and as a kind of "brush" Grosse uses an industrial spray gun.
The spray in the skillful hands of the artist literally revives the surfaces - and now the abandoned bunkers, dull walls of houses and factories begin to sparkle with all possible shades. The artist herself admits that color plays a crucial role in creating a composition.
This approach is fully shared by the French designer Emmanuel Muro. In her original installation of 100 colors, she clearly demonstrates the influence of different shades on a person's mood.
Katharina's method of work is somewhat like graffiti, but at the same time brings us back to classical techniques, such as fresco, one of the techniques used for murals. However, the origins are definitely abstractionism with its refusal to depict forms close to reality.
One of the artist's latest exhibitions and installations, Wunderblock, was held in August at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. In a small hall, the audience was exposed to a huge mountain of free-form soil, painted in all the colors of the rainbow according to the artist's method.
Katharina Grosse was born in 1961 in Freiburg, Germany. He currently lives and works in Berlin.
