Korean sculptor and ceramist Nina Jun challenges the fundamental laws of physics by making balloons lie dead on the ground. More precisely, with a pretty ceramic load of cheerful colors, which is intended to symbolize the happiness that will never end.
Five days after the party, all the balloons fall to the floor. They lie, swaying slightly, if someone passes by, like a memory of the former carefree happiness, which gradually grew heavier over the years and descended to the ground. What if they never got blown away? If they would always keep striving upward, pulling on the thread?
The project "Fly High" by Nina June is a ceramic sculpture made in the form of multi-colored balloons. When they are hung along the walls of the exhibition space, it seems that they are really able to overcome gravity and fly away, despite the obvious weight of the material.
This is how June herself formulates the concept of the project:
Another talented ceramist, Brett Kern, is working on a very similar idea. He creates ceramic figurines that mimic inflatable toys for children.
