Art heals, brings back to life, allows one to detach from the world, forget about problems and even, in some cases, helps to find a way out of the most difficult, it would seem, situations. It is not for nothing that in psychiatric clinics all patients undergo art therapy as one of the mandatory procedures. And the results of such procedures often delight even healthy, adequate contemplators.
Mentally ill people live in their own special world, and creativity helps them adapt to our world. The pictures presented in today's selection were born in Russian psychiatric clinics. How much depth, hopelessness, despair and detachment are in them, isn't it?
If you look closely, in some of the works you can catch similar motives with the paintings of the same Bosch, Dali and modern surrealists. Isn't this a confirmation that genius is a close relative of insanity?
And yet, such art also has a right to exist. Indeed, by and large, it is no worse than modern "canvases", which sometimes look like the pampering of a child left alone with open gouache.

Creativity of the mentally ill? Just the epitome of nightmares in Mia Makila's paintings and collages
Everyone probably knows about the painting "Maslenitsa", in which literally a few details indicate that it was painted by a mentally ill person. There are so many of these details in Mia Makila's paintings that, after looking at several of her eerie works, you stop believing that she is an absolutely adequate person
Naked farmers on the pages of a calendar released in support of the Mind Foundation for the mentally ill
What people do not do for the sake of charity! They give free concerts, donate old clothes to the homeless, organize auctions to sell unnecessary things. 20-year-old Emily Steaggles decided not to stop there and invited the farmers from Bedfordshire to undress. The nude photo shoot became the basis for the 2014 calendar released in support of the Mind Foundation for the mentally ill
Creative hospital for mentally ill children
Art not only ennobles a person spiritually, but also heals his soul. An example of this is Evangelisches Konigin Elizabeth Krankenhaus, a children's psychiatric clinic in Berlin. Everything in it is designed to unleash the creative potential of mentally ill children and, thereby, heal their souls
People, people and again people. Drawings by John Beinart
If you only have a couple of moments to get to know Jon Beinart, then, glancing over his paintings, you will see black and white portraits or several human figures. But the drawings of this author are nevertheless recommended to be considered more thoughtfully and more carefully: and then you will see that in each image there are tens and hundreds of people, who can be peered at for hours

A very strange and peculiar, but atmospheric series of photographs of suitcases collected in an old abandoned psychiatric hospital, provides a unique opportunity to find out what people kept in their bags before they got to the hospital
