In 1895, more than a hundred years ago, a double-deck steamer named General Kotzebue sank in the Crimea. This happened as a result of his collision with the transport "Penderaklia", which was part of the Black Sea Fleet. The flooded place was Cape Tarkhankut, which is located in the western part of the peninsula. The sunken ship at a depth of 40 meters was discovered only in 2015.
During the recovery of artifacts from this sunken steamer, several paintings were discovered. Videos were made, in which you can see in detail how professional scuba divers dive to explore the steamer. The found works of art, of which there are about ten fragments, were partially covered with silt. The paintings are the work of different artists.
Later, information appeared that all the paintings found were created by the famous great artist Ivan Aivazovsky. This was reported on the radio station "Moscow speaking". When compiling such a message, the radio decided to refer to the fact that such information had been received from Roman Dunaev, who is the leader of the Neptune expedition, which was engaged in diving and researching the sunken ship.
Dunaev said that the steamer General Kotzebue was one of the very first ships to sail along the Suez Canal. It was a great event and in order for it to be preserved in history, it was decided to capture it on canvas, for which Ivan Aivazovsky was even sent to the ship. His responsibilities included transferring to the canvas the passage of various ships along the Suez Canal to Egypt, including the steamer General Kotzebue. Dunaev, during his story, drew attention to the fact that Aivazovsky loved to give his sketches and whole pictures to the crews of ships. Perhaps the found works of art were just part of such a collection.
So far, during the dive, scuba divers only see the frames of the paintings. In order for the paintings to be preserved as much as possible, not to be damaged after a century of being under water, it is important to carefully and thoroughly clean them of silt before starting to lift them. Such preparatory work takes a long time. Presumably, it will take several months for all the paintings to be lifted. It is planned to start in June.

After a long wandering "ghost ship" washed up on the shores of Ireland: What kind of ship is it really?
In February 2020, a brutal winter storm, Dennis, raged across Europe. The hurricane wind raised huge waves, as high as a five-story building, from Canada to the coast of northern Scandinavia. During this storm, an unexpected guest arrived on the shores of Ireland - an abandoned ship that disappeared almost two years ago. The sea rejected the victim, and the raging elements threw the ship onto the coastal cliffs. What is this ghost ship that was neither alive nor dead?
How the battleship Potemkin became the ship of the revolution, and where did the red flag come from on the ship?
The revolutionary actions that swept through the large cities of the Russian Empire in 1905 did not leave indifferent the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet. The rebels, mostly recruits, sympathized with the Social Democrats, regularly read anti-government newspapers and dreamed of ideas of justice. For 11 days the battleship Potemkin sailed in disorderly tossing between the seaside cities, on the deck of which a red flag was suddenly raised. But there were no people willing to support the riot, and the crew had to
