In a dream, we spend most of our lives, and no matter what place we occupy in society, in a dream we are all the same. The thought in itself makes you wonder, but Swedish artist Maria Friberg makes you dive even deeper: her unusual photo projects dedicated to sleeping people explore the themes of courage, a person's place in society and its nature.
Maria Friberg's projects, in fact, being ordinary photographs and short films, are in fact deep philosophical studies of modern human problems, which, of course, are far from everyone's teeth. The men in her photographs, falling asleep on a heap of compressed cars, between books or in the snow, seem so defenseless that you begin to look in a new way at the very definitions of courage and a person's place in society.
Maria Friberg was born in 1966 in Malmo, Sweden. Now he works in different cities around the world, but mostly in Stockholm, closer to home. Here is what she herself says about her works: “Most of them are related to the themes of courage, strength, man's relationship to nature. I create ambiguous images that challenge conventional wisdom regarding identification, gender and social hierarchy.” With the latter, looking at sleeping men, it is difficult to disagree.
The place of a person in societyis thus one of the main themes addressed by Maria Friberg. In general, there are quite a few works by a wide variety of artists, dedicated to different states of a person and personality, many of which develop unexpected philosophical ideas and destroy established ideas. Very unusual in this sense turned out, for example, the art project "Identity" by artist Jeffrey Wang about how the personality was tempered, or the project "Fragmentation", dedicated to cloning.
The fact that in the works of Maria Friberg people sleep in completely unsuitable places for this reveals another philosophical thought: how difficult it is for a person to find his place, both in society and in space. In general, in these works, everyone can find something for themselves, it is not for nothing that Maria's exhibitions were held all over the world - from Athens to New York. Sleeping People are the artist's works taken from several projects at once, the most famous of which is called Still Life. On her website, you can find other projects of hers, including the last one called "transmission", dedicated to inverted cars.

Today, in the overwhelming majority of countries of the world, the swastika is a symbol of fascism, and few remember that in various cultures for thousands of years it was considered a sign that brings good luck. Photo project from the Society for the Protection of Animals "SPCA Costume"
As it turned out, not only people are met by their clothes. The fate of animals also directly depends on the pedigree. The better and cleaner a dog's breed, the more likely it is to get into a good home, grow up on a well-balanced diet, and gnaw on sugar bones, not trash extracted from a container. Although this is unfair. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has long been concerned about this problem. The organization even launched a special advertising campaign, the slogan of which read: “
People, people and again people. Drawings by John Beinart
If you only have a couple of moments to get to know Jon Beinart, then, glancing over his paintings, you will see black and white portraits or several human figures. But the drawings of this author are nevertheless recommended to be considered more thoughtfully and more carefully: and then you will see that in each image there are tens and hundreds of people, who can be peered at for hours
Photo project "Animalia": animals are not people, and people are not animals
Imagine an empty, empty city where there is not a single person. Empty houses, workplaces and public places, empty streets and parks. There is not a single human soul. No life. Rather, there is no human life, but there is an animal
