St. Petersburg is the cultural capital of Russia, which has inspired many writers and poets to create wonderful works. This city is different for everyone: it is a city of museums, a city of palaces, a city of lanes, but for sure. Everyone associates Petersburg with beautiful architecture. What does the city look like in winter? When the palaces of emperors (but mostly empresses) are covered with snow and surrounded by threads of tourists' traces. Photographer MarinaAn offered her view on the winter "city of Petrov".
On the website MarinaAn writes about himself the following: “I am an amateur photographer. I am engaged in photography mainly for the soul … I was born in Karelia, in the city of Sortavala … Since childhood, I dreamed of photography, which then seemed to me an incomprehensible mystery. But this sacrament, alas, was inaccessible to me, since at that time the material capabilities of my family did not allow me to do this."
“My profession is a builder, but I think that my real calling is photography. I really got carried away with this art in 2000, when I got a Zenit camera. In the beginning, I photographed my family and friends, friends and neighbors. My work is an attempt at self-expression. They reflect my inner world, but how good it is - it's up to you, my viewers, to decide."
The photographer also writes about his Petersburg photographs “At the moment I live in one of the most wonderful and romantic cities in the world, in St. Petersburg. A significant part of my work is taken by shooting panoramas of the city. I love my city very much and I want to show it beautifully and with dignity. I especially like to shoot the city at night, when everything glitters and sparkles. Repeatedly I wondered how to fit the whole area with several buildings or the river embankment into one picture. By combining several frames in one work, you can show more and more wider and higher, while not worsening the quality of the work, but on the contrary improving it."
MarinaAn takes pictures of the city not only in winter, she has a lot of other works, starting with the spring St. Petersburg and ending with pictures from the day of the celebration of the airborne troops in the cultural capital. But, probably, one of the main features of all these works is that although the landscapes look somewhat stencil, but when you look at them, you get a feeling of "immersion" in the streets of Petrograd, the photographs convey not only a "strict, slender look", but also the appropriate mood that appears when looking at some areas of the city. Calmed, at times austere, at times vain, Petersburg allowed MarinaAn to admire herself, and she brought its “zest” to the viewer.
In addition to panoramic pictures of winter St. Petersburg, MarinaAn has many other, no less, and maybe more interesting works, which can be seen on her website. You can also find more information about the photographer there.
