“Collecting ordinary jigsaw puzzles is interesting, but too easy,” - once decided for himself Kent Rogowski and complicated the task. Now, to create one image, the author needs several boxes of puzzles, elements of which Kent combines with each other. Thanks to such non-standard moves, this favorite activity for children and adults has turned from an ordinary puzzle into the creation of real works of art.
For the Love = Love series, Kent Rogowski used forty puzzle boxes. As a result of combining their elements with each other, beautiful fantastic landscapes were born. An important fact is that all the puzzles must be from the same manufacturer, otherwise the mixed parts would simply not be possible to connect to each other due to inconsistencies in shape, size, etc.
This is how New York gallerist Jen Beckman says about Kent Rogowski's work: “The dissonance resulting from the mixing of these clean, bright, necessarily happy images of flora, blue skies and exotic lands literally breaks the hyperrealistic images so characteristic of our modern mass culture. The author takes the American obsession with order, novelty and perfection and remakes it into something chaotic and unreal."
Kent Rogowski graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2000 with a master's degree in photography. The author currently lives and works in New York.
