Video: Inside out teddy bears by Kent Rogowski

American photographer Kent Rogowski finds materials for his art in toy stores. One of his projects is related to puzzles, and in another, the main role is given to teddy bears. True, the fate of these bears cannot be envied: the author rips the toys at the seams, turns them inside out and sews them again.
Many teddy bear fans cannot forgive Kent Rogowski for how he treats their favorite toys. But the author has his own opinion on this matter: “Teddy bears are positioned as harmless and not at all threatening creatures. Turned inside out, bears still remain recognizable, but now there are more difficulties for understanding and contradictions. The seams on the toys become scars and, depending on the original design, the bears may be missing some body parts. When you look at these bears, you realize that they have their own history and past. They no longer offer consolation, but instead await our sympathy themselves."
True, many are interested in the question: do teddy bears remain toys after they have been turned inside out, or does their purpose somehow change? According to Kent Rogowski, his manipulation with bears is an attempt to show how far our childhood illusions are from real life. Therefore, a plush creation in the author's work is just an image that most people associate with childhood. So, according to Kent, after his intervention, the original purpose of the teddy bears changes. Although the author does not exclude the possibility that some kid may like such a bear turned inside out more than a traditional one.
According to Kent Rogowski, the reaction of people to his turned inside out bears is rather mixed, and this is not surprising. At the same time, if we talk about trends, then it is adults who most often speak negatively about these works, see them as hidden aggression and threat. Children, on the other hand, consider clumsy animals, although strange, but still funny and cute.
