There is a beautiful parable that most people, looking at a white sheet of paper with a small black dot on it, see only it. They do not notice the sheet itself, the dimensions of which are many times larger than the dimensions of the point. Likewise, in life, people more often see each other as minor flaws, not noticing the great advantages. The real exception to the rule is Danish artist Peter Callesen … For him, a white sheet is not only a source of inspiration, but also an endless field for creativity.

On our website Culturology.ru we have already talked about paper artthat this creative Dane creates. Today we will continue to talk about his unique paperwork, which makes you look at everyday things in a different way. Peter himself admits that he did not choose the A4 format by chance: in the modern world, such sheets are often used to record any information. By itself, the paper becomes only a "container" of certain news, the "life" of which is predominantly short-lived.

Peter Kallesen thought about how to "free" the paper from any meaning whatsoever. Tabula rasa gives an opportunity for an unlimited flight of the artist's imagination, therefore, the sheets can be "filled" with any meaning. The master boldly experiments with two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. Using scissors and glue, he "transforms" a flat sheet into three-dimensional figures, while the cut out "silhouette" remains on the sheet itself. It is he who is the visible "face" of the figure. That only there is a skeleton sitting on a chair, "casting a shadow" of a quite strong man, or an angel in the sun's rays, which in fact become his cage.

The material for Peter's unusual paintings was A4 paper, as this emphasizes the fragility of the "sculptures", and white is associated with purity, calmness, and silence. That is why, even where it is necessary to shout, the artist remains restrained and calm, which further enhances the tragedy and romanticism inherent in his works.
