Flirting is a favorite pastime of young people. Heart beats, cheeks turn red, eyes shoot, and who knows what kind of trick will make the girl answer: "Yes!" Well, that is, some peoples used to know for sure, but a modern girl is unlikely to be excited if someone offers to sit in a closet or starts throwing food at her.

As you know, showing their addiction and intention to marry, the ancient Greeks threw an apple at their chosen ones from afar. It was impossible to come closer, girls and women in ancient Greece were kept, as in many Muslim countries, locked up in the female half. Except for the slaves, of course. But the slaves were offered gifts at best, and at worst they were molested. If the girl who was thrown with an apple bit it, then the man knew that not only her father would be delighted with the matchmaking.

The bull's-eye was also popular among the Germans of the past, before the cult of sterility, which spread in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Europe. Only the girls gave them to men, like Eve, when she tempted Adam. And before that, the girl was holding an apple under her arm or in her bosom. It seemed to the guys very spicy, but among the girls there was a rumor that an apple was one of the surest ways of a love spell and, mind you, without the magic that is condemned by the church.

For many peoples from Central Asia to the Balkans, one of the few legal ways to make eyes for a girl was to ask for a drink. The traveler and worker cannot be denied water. While the girl stood, waiting for the jug to be returned to her from under the water, she and the young man could properly see each other and understand whether they liked each other. In addition, to gratitude for the water, unlike many other situations, it was not forbidden to add an innocent compliment to ruddy cheeks or black eyes.

In Europe in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, girls flirted with a fan. Everyone knew the language of the fan by heart: young people copied its description from each other from albums that were akin to Soviet girls' notebooks. The gestures could be different in different countries and even cities. For example, in one place the girl showed goodwill by touching the tip of the folded fan to the arm or chest of the young man in conversation, and in another, opening the fan almost completely and tilting it slightly to one side.

Among the Scandinavians, before the consolidation of the position of Christianity, a girl who had reached the age of a bride walked with an empty sheath on her belt. The young man, who decided to propose to her, came up and thrust his knife into her sheath. If the girl took out the knife and threw it on the ground, then the offer, then, was rejected. The symbolic meaning of this particular mode of courtship is quite in the spirit of Freud; this can easily be seen in the way in the ballads of England, which largely preserved the customs of the Scandinavian conquerors and the words of their languages, sheathing is called sexual intercourse.

In medieval Arabic-speaking countries and in Heian Japan, flirting between young people involved exchanging poems written according to strict rules or at least appropriately quoted. The Japanese also soften the heart with their sweetheart playing the flute - just like the North American Indians.

English gypsies traditionally try to kiss the girl they love. After the kiss, she will inevitably be given in marriage to cover up the shame, so the gypsy girls learned to very deftly beat their heads on the lips of the boys. It doesn't always help.

In many Russian villages at the end of the nineteenth century, it was not boys who courted girls, but vice versa. To appease the chosen one, the girl treated him to gingerbread, bought vodka or gave him something embroidered with her own hands. Accordingly, in those villages where the guys chased after the girls, gingerbread was given to the girls. The guys also talked especially jokingly with their chosen ones, tried to walk more often in smart clothes under their windows, called them by their first name and patronymic … Which did not prevent them from constantly trying to hug or pinch the girl.

The decisive moment of recognition was dancing in the circle of young people. When the girl went out to dance, the guy took her place and demanded a kiss upon her return. If the girl liked the guy, she kissed him and sat down on her knees, if she didn't like him, she scolded and chased him away. It was considered indecent to kiss every dances of a new guy, teenagers formed more or less permanent couples and before the wedding they sorted out no more than two or three "favorites" … True, in other areas there were variations.

In Victorian England, a young man from a bourgeois or noble family caring for a girl, at the first request, would put his hands up to help her rewind the woolen yarn, or offered to help bring the prayer book after the service. Of course, there were decent compliments and love letters in circulation (and guides on how to write these letters were sold). The courtship was complicated by the fact that it was impossible to talk to the girl in private.

And before the Victorian era, young people in England often sort things out during … Hide and seek. This is the only pastime during which it was not shameful for a girl to be alone with a young man. The presenter or presenter was usually in no hurry to find those hiding, although he could easily have done it by sound: here and there whispers or even the sounds of kisses could be heard. Often an engagement announcement followed shortly after the game.

There are several ways to flirt in the Kamasutra. One of them looks rather creepy: a man is invited, if his beloved is still playing with dolls, to enter into her confidence and cook food from rose petals for the doll. The girl will make friends with her uncle, and it will be easy to convince her to secretly run to the priest - to get married.

Other ways to flirt are to send the girl you seem to like each other with figurines of rams and Goats with big erect penises. If the girl understands the hint and agrees, then in response she will show different parts of her body. It should be noted that in the age of the Internet, many began to send girls erect penises of rams and goats right along the Kama Sutra, only now they themselves act as animals. Indeed, why are intermediaries in matters of love?

An umbrella with bells and a flute concert can also be involved in the process of flirting: this is how the Indians of North America flirted with girls.
