Photographer Martin Rietze has traveled the world to take pictures of one of the most beautiful, but also terrifying natural phenomena - a volcanic eruption. Martin saw lava flowing from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii into the sea, how Mount Etna came to life in Italy, how craters erupted in Indonesia, Japan, Chile, Tanzania, Great Britain and many other countries of the world. We can only envy the artist's creative passion and courage and, of course, enjoy his work.

Martin Rietze was born in Costa Rica, Italy. The photographer is now forty-five years old. In general, Martin's specialty is mountaineering (apparently he was drawn to extreme sports from a young age). He relishes each meeting with the eruption, and describes it this way: “When you stand next to a huge, strong, erupting volcano and your body feels the earth trembling, shock waves pass through it, you feel a feeling of fear, but also a deep satisfaction, the feeling of which something natural and important is an incomparable pleasure."

“And this is far from the same as tourist trips, where the guide knows how to properly guide the group so that none of its members is exposed to the slightest danger. The guide knows it and you know it, you just look and indifferently look at something majestic, happening so close, but so far away. The photographer, on the other hand, puts his soul into the picture and becomes so close to what he is shooting. I think everyone dreams of photographing volcanic eruptions!"

In an interview for the National Geographic channel, Martin confessed, “Since childhood, I dreamed of photographing volcanoes, in my profession there is only one bad thing - it is almost never possible to correctly predict the moment of an eruption. Sometimes you have to wait a long time when the long-awaited magma will finally flow down, and this is so boring!"

Another achievement of the photographer is that he was able to capture electrical discharges, which have long been of interest to the scientific community.
