From many tiny pieces of paper Briton Matthew Picton creates amazing models of famous cities. Sometimes it is not just paper: on one of the streets of Dallas one can find photographic evidence of President Kennedy's last car trip, and Dublin at the beginning of the 20th century was assembled from scraps of James Joyce's Ulysses.
In the case of Dublin, Picton literally follows the words of Joyce himself - the great writer argued: "If Dublin is completely erased from the face of the Earth, it can be restored from my book." It is not the only "literary" city in Picton's collection. Hunter S. Thompson's novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for example, served as the basis for the model of an All-American entertainment center; and Tehran managed to collect several books from scraps at once. Not to mention Jerusalem, which was "recreated" from fragments of the Torah, the New Testament, the Armenian Bible and the Koran.
In the works of Picton one can sense an interest in many branches of knowledge at once - literature, cinema, history. Many fragments of his elaborate work reflect historical events. This is the assassination of Kennedy in Dallas, and the great fire of 1666 in London, which Picton "restored" with the help of "burnt" pages from Daniel Defoe's book.
Crafts from paper - known as origami in the east - are not just children's entertainment, but the favorite pastime of many talented artists: Yu Jordi Fu creates lamps and lampshades from paper, spouses Allen and Patty Ekman - original sculptures. Matthew Picton's paper creations are the result of painstaking work, but they look elegant and attractive: this long work leads to the appearance of works of art much less ponderous than Ulysses or other works on medieval history.

World landmarks from Christina Layen's paper cities
American Christina Layen is an architect by profession, but she does not design future houses from concrete and brick, but cuts them out of paper. This material allows the architect to donate to the world the second Eiffel Tower, the Uffizzi Gallery and the Taj Mahal. And by the way, paper cities are growing by leaps and bounds, much faster than real ones
