Video: Street art by Christopher Tavares Silva: changing the world for the better

Christopher Tavares Silva's creative career began as a teenager, painting city walls with bright colored graffiti. The author has not left street art to this day, but now his works are installations that Chris creates from a variety of materials, exploring their properties and potential.
Like many contemporary authors, Christopher loves to use found objects in his work, combine incompatible things and, thus, “turn trash into treasures”. In each of his works, Silva deliberately strives for ambiguity and understatement, allowing the viewer to independently seek the meaning of these works, and not accept the author's.
Many believe that creativity is, first of all, a way of self-expression and demonstration of the author's talents to the public. Chris Silva fundamentally disagrees with this. “I believe that the collective consciousness is thousands of times more important than the individual ego. As an artist, my aim is not to receive honors and praise for my talents, but rather to inspire other people to create a just and meaningful world. It is more interesting for me to see what WE can do than to show what I can do."
Christopher opposes cruelty, xenophobia and greed. The relationship of people to each other and to the environment is one of the main sources of his concern, and the author hopes that his work can help change the world for the better. And that is why Silva prefers to leave his works on the streets, rather than in exhibition halls: this way they can be seen by a much larger number of people.
Christopher Tavares Silva was born in 1972 in Puerto Rico. The author currently lives and works in Chicago. Street art isn't Chris's only hobby: he also writes music and lyrics.
