Despite the fact that the paintings are saturated with the harsh Soviet reality, they are filled with incredible warmth, sincerity and kindness, which the modern world sometimes lacks. After all, his work is a breath of nostalgia, deftly transporting the viewer to the distant past, when life, and people were completely different, more open, hospitable and alive …
Thanks to the direct perception of the world around him, Valentin never gets tired of coming up with a variety of subjects for his works. His paintings are like a fascinating game that transports the viewer to the vastness of the Soviet past, where, it would seem, life went on as usual, but at the same time, to this day, there is something to remember. And every time, looking at this or that picture, you again want to feel like a hero of the old days. Indeed, according to the artist, a person consists of 60 percent of the past, 30 percent of the present, and only 10 of them is the future, consisting of dreams and desires. His work is imbued with incredible nostalgia, seasoned with "salt and pepper", a pinch of sadness and notes of joy, reflecting a wide variety of feelings and emotions.
“Simple as five kopecks” - this can be said about Valentine and his work, which is based not only on irony with subtle humor, but also on romance, seasoned with emotions, bright feelings and warmth, as well as incredible energy and positive, without which it is difficult to imagine such a picture. They feel the real life, familiar to most viewers who were born and raised during the Soviet Union. And, despite the fact that all of it, it would seem, consisted of absurdities, fleeting moments and several holidays, during which feasts were arranged, with dances and dances, the atmosphere reigning around could not but rejoice. After all, it was then that people not only waited for the approaching fun, but also appreciated what they had and have, rejoicing in every day they lived. The works are an excellent example of this and proof that everything was there in Soviet times, but, nevertheless, there was always something missing.
Ironically sarcastic works are the harsh truth of life, in which everyone can recognize themselves. The plots of his paintings are a unique opportunity to look into the distant past, looking at yourself from the outside. And despite the fact that most of the events are long behind, nevertheless, they perfectly reflect modern reality …
